Subject: rock covers of classical music
Written By: ziphen on 05/07/05 at 5:46 am
Hi guys.
I need some classical music songs done by rock or similar artists. especially I'm interested in cover of Bizet's Carmen suite aragonaise. I think that I've heard a version of it once upon a time (yup I'm senile) done by Deep purple or blackmore solo. Any ideas?
Thanx!

"Sky" - who were around in the 70's and 80's did great rock-pop interpretations of classical stuff.
Vivaldi's "Tocatta" was perhaps their best know work of this type :)

Ahem! It was actually Johann Sebastian Bach who wrote that...
(Who's Bach's worse than his bite...!!)
Good rendition tho' - remember it well...
Manfred Mann's Earth Band turned in a pretty good adaptation of 'Jupiter' from Gustav Holt's Planets Suite and retitled it 'Joybringer'...

Thoughts of Eric Carmen and Rachmaninov come to mind here.

But of course...!
Even big, bad Barry Manilow got in on the act with 'Could It Be Magic', which was loosely based on Chopin's 'Prelude In C Minor'...

And that one is his best song, IMO. :)
