Yes they did, gord - at about the same time that the record was successful - March 1973...
It got banned in the UK because of 'trademark references' (the BBC was the only radio broadcaster at the time, and all advertising references were frowned upon...)
The lads came up with a jolly wheeze to get round it - they substituted the words 'Rolling Stone' with 'Radio Times' which was the BBC's programme listing journal - the BBC didn't see the joke and still never played it...I'd still like to get a copy of this (the song, not the Radio Times...!!)

I think RS gave 'em "the shaft" with a caricature of the group. Dr.Hook's silly Top-40 songs weren't the type of music RS was interested in.

ah, there it is, thanks both of you for the info :) I was driving home today and the song came on the radio and it got me wondering.
