I have been trying to find out the name of the song that is played in the movie police academy when they walk into the Blue Oyster bar.
I have a long standing joke with my brother about it and it would be funny to find it and send it to him one day.
If anybody can help i would be very thankfull.

I found this on www.imdb.com in the discussion section on Police Academy.
"Yes, the song is called El Bimbo. It's an old piece from Brazil (I think) that was covered by many artists over the years. This particular "Blue Oyster Bar" version was conducted by a French-Canadian guy called Jean-Marc Dompierre. Sadly, this version was recorded strictly for the movie scenes and never made it to an album or movie soundtrack LP. Which sucks, since this is clearly the best version of El Bimbo, even though we never get to hear more than 10-15 seconds of the actual tune"

this song was originally from afghanistan. ahmad zahir of afghanistan was apparently the bomb back in the 60s. one of his songs (Tanha Shodam, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7QRgzeFu3I) was covered by a band called Bimbo Jet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VJLukTNJjA) and then by paul mauriat as "El Bimbo" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pm0KYe2P1lo)
from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmad_Zahir: His influence is felt beyond the borders of the Persian-speaking world. One of his songs "Tanha Shudam Tanha" composed for his 1971 album Lylee was covered by a French Disco group, and later the instrumental version of the song was used by composer Paul Mauriat ("El Bimbo") as the theme to the Hollywood movie Police Academy. His songs are regularly covered by Afghan, Iranian and Tajikistani musicans.
