Subject: Identify 70's Band or Artist by Song Titles

Written By: iluvthe80s on 05/24/05 at 11:36 am

I just started a similar thread over at the 80's messageboard and thought I'd try it out here too - the object of the game is to name the 70's group or singer by a series of 2 or 3 song titles that they all have in common, then whoever guesses will then give another list of song titles for the next person to guess - I'll start with hopefully an easy one:

Since this one is more obscure, I'll add a hint right away:  this artist is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a song writer.  The songs were written for highly prominent 60's soul groups.

Here are some songs:

Let Me Start Tonite
Trying To Hold On To My Woman
Fish Ain't Bitin'

Ultraviolet52, please go ahead and add a new set also - keep the ball rolling...    ;)

I'll just poke my head above water here and say that they're all songs by the fantastic Lamont Dozier (who, of course, composed many Motown delights with the Holland brothers the previous decade...)

Way to go, Paul!  Lamont Dozier, it is.   :D

Of course, much better known as part of Motown's Holland-Dozier-Holland songwriting team, writing our favorite smashes by the Supremes, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, etc.

Hmmm, I thought this one would be easy ...    :-\\

Ok a hint - the artist was in the movie the Blues Brothers, and is also in the R&R Hall Of Fame (went in early!)

and three more 70's songs

Super Bad (Pt. 1 & 2)
Soul Power Pt. 1
Make It Funky Pt. 1

and just so you all will stop being stumped   :o   some 60's songs:

I Feel Good (I Got You)
Papa's Got A Brand New Bag  Pt. 1
Cold Sweat

This is a no cheating zone right...?

I guess it is easier to look them up..but I remember having the  Patches son and was thinking somebody? Carter????

I remember a group Chairman of the Board but I remember a solo guy doing Patches-  'my father was a great old man, I remember with a gun in his hand'

I didn't want to answer because I don't have any to contribute to the next link.

sorry ??? ???

Nope but just know that while Ronstadt did a LOT of remakes, "You're No Good" was a remake of her I actually think was much better ;)

Sorry to hear you don't want to contribute, 'guest'...

A shame because you're right (in a roundabout way)

It actually was Chairmen Of The Board, I stuck 'Patches' in there to confuse...seems to have worked!

'Patches' was indeed sung by Clarence Carter (and he had the hit), but COTB recorded it first (but issued it after Carter's version) - if memory serves it was stuck on the flip of 'Dangling On A String'...

Their big hit I left out was 'Give Me Just A Little More Time'...

Very well done...

I used to have "Wild Cherry"...Play that funky music...I cant remember any other song
And LTD...every time I turn around, or was it back in love again?  I cant remember any others.
Plus I had Peter Frampton comes alive...Did he sing "freebird?  If not, I like that song!

I used to listen to avlot of that music, but I have to be careful not to get into the 80's funk!

Also I am trying to think of ...now I cant remember his name...is 70's...he sings "Lido"

How about some Van Morrison?  Domino?  Gloria?...
