I always like 'Ponch and John', so CHIPS is my first choice. followed by Charlies Angles

  Of those listed "Chips" followed by "Starsky & Hutch" then "Mod Squad". The parental units wouldn't let us watch "Charlies Angles", though we did without them knowing.
  Does the NBC Mystery Movie of the Week count? Because I also liked Columbo, McCloud, and Ironside.

Starsky and Hutch, not just the best cop show of the 70s, but the best of all time.

Another good one was "Police Story". Each episode featured new characters some of which made more than 1 appearance. It was always an exciting show. Used to watch reruns of it on A&E back in the 90's :)

You know, I never saw 'Baretta', I always heard of it and would see the commercials but never watch the show.

Remember that show with Robert Urich 'Vegas'? I guess that would qualify too right?

In an interview on radio the other day, Peter Falk mentioned he still has the raincoat.

I watched a lot of Cop shows in the 70's.
My favorite was Columbo
The Mod Squad was a close second.
Joseph Wambaugh's Police Story was excellent.
Banacek w/George Peppard and McMillan and Wife were {and with DVD releases....still are} favorites.
About a year ago a local tv station began showing Ironside at 3am on the weekend.I'd never seen it when it was on originally.I watched it & was hooked I taped it every weekend then luckily the seasons have begun being released on DVD.{So far the first 2 seasons}
I just bought the 5th Season of Hawaii Five-O because it had some episodes I remembered as being pretty good.
I was thinking of getting seasons of Mannix w/ Mike Conners, I remember watching it with My Grandparents.
There was a short lived series w/ Wayne {Mash} Rogers , City of Angels that I enjoyed.

I remember watching Mod Squad and Adam 12. That's about it though. Maybe  T.J. Hooker once in a while, because it had Shatner.

Harry O w/ David Janssen was really good too.I have all the episodes on DVD.I've watched the first season...{there were 2}
It was really good...First, Janssen was a great character Actor.He plays an ex Cop {He has a bullet lodged in His spine} turned Private Eye.
Not the typical Cop fare of the 70's.Not a lot of gunplay or chase scenes.Very well written.
