Any Emerson, Lake and Palmer fans out there. What's your favorite song by them?

other:  Their 1986 hit 'Touch and Go' (as Emerson, Lake and Powell) is really the only one off hand that I know

A lot of their stuff can verge on the 'overblown', but there's no denying the mastery of their instruments...

'Karn Evil 9' (aka 'Welcome Back My Friends') is pretty good, as is the majority of the 'Brain Salad Surgery' LP...

...I went for Other: 'Tarkus'...a huge sprawling, adventurous piece, which is a bit much to swallow in one go, but it's awesomely executed...great stuff...

I always thought the acoustic ballad "From the Beginning" by Greg Lake was their best.

To tell you the truth I liked them a lot better before "Brain Salad Surgery" (never cared for the title either). Bands like EL&P seem better when they are obscure. It's sort of like liking Peter Frampton before "Frampton Comes Alive!" **. After they turned out BSS everyone knew them -- they were no longer unique.

** Or maybe even Pink Floyd before "The Dark Side of the Moon".

I chose other. Pirates is my favorite Emerson Lake & Palmer song. Tarkus is my favorite album. ELP had a very unique sound
that you either loved or hated. I happen to be a huge ELP fan.  Starting "from the beginning" with The Nice, Atomic Rooster
and King Crimson, to now with Emerson (soundtracks) Lake (solo) and Palmer (Qango). The musical talent and sound these
three individuals put together was phenomenal. Whether they were live or in the studio they were able to replicate their sound.
Not many bands were able to pull that off.

Little known ELP facts:

In 1992 they release "Black Moon," the album reaches #78 on the U.S charts but the single by the same name
doesn't break the top 100.

In 1994 they release "In The Hot Seat"....Greg Lake donates $5,000 to the Sara Anne Wood Research Center,
Sara Anne Wood was a young girl who was brutally murdered by alledged Massachusetts serial killer Lewis Lent.
They also release a single that never makes the Top 100 titled “Daddy” and the proceeds from that single are
also donated to the same Center.

The very chilling song called Daddy!

Daddy lyrics

It was a cold night in December
The snow lay on the ground
She was coming home from school one night
From the other side of town
It was getting late, there was something wrong
Then I heard the news
A TV Flash and by 9 o'clock
They'd found her socks and shoes

Daddy come and bring me home

I didn't know which way to turn
I was shaking like a leaf
I got into my car and drove
Searching every street
Has anybody seen her
Have you found my little girl
She's all I have, all I possess
And to me, she means the world

I can hear her calling
Daddy come and bring me home
Daddy, Daddy come and bring me home
Daddy, when are you gonna bring me home

As time went by each silent night
We knew all hope was gone
We knew the light had flickered
From the eyes that once had shone
They caught a man in a bar one night
He confessed to what he'd done
He'd laid her body out in some dark wood
Just didn't know which one,
Daddy, Daddy come and bring me home
Daddy, Daddy come and bring me home

I just couldn't leave her out there
Lying on her own
'Cause she belongs to me
And I belong to her
I know she rests in Heaven
With the angels on a throne
But now I hear her calling
Daddy, Daddy come and bring me home
Daddy come and bring me home
Daddy, Daddy come and bring me home
Daddy, Daddy come and bring me home

I picked 'Karn Evil #9' by a slim margin.  I almost picked 'From The Beginning'.
