For those of you in America, Ian Thomas was a 1 hit wonder with the top 40 hit Painted Ladies, but as a song-writer, you'll recognize his songs as covered by others:
Right Before Your Eyes was a near top 40 hit for America in 1982
The Runner was the comeback hit for Manfred Mann in 1984
Hold On became a top 10 hit for Santana in 1982
Chains appears as an album track on Chicago's 16 album

I also really like 'The Runner', but truthfully, I like Manfred Mann's cover better :-[

Whoa...are you telling me that Hold On wasn't a Santana original..?
It was not an original Santana tune, no. Ian Thomas (brother of SCTV Dave Thomas) wrote it and took it into the Canadian Charts in 1981. Both versions sound very much a-like

I voted for Mother Earth, I really like the bass in this song.
It has a real funk sound to it.
