Subject: Create Your OWN 1970's CD. What songs would you include?

Written By: Banks on 12/21/05 at 7:58 pm

Im not sure if this has been done before, but if you could create your own 1970's various artists CD that you believe would initiate the uninitiated into LOVING at least 1970's music, what songs would you include if you only had room for 20 songs????

Here are mine:

1. Hello, This Is Joannie (The Telephone Answering Machine Song) by Paul Evans

2. Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac

3. The Imigrant Song by Led Zeppelin

4. Rubber Bullets by 10CC

5. Band Of Gold by Freda Payne

6. Black Superman - 'Muhammad Ali' by Johnny Wakelin and the Kinshasa Band

7. Idi Amin by Idi Amin and the Campala Club Singers (this is a very light hearted song about a very bad Ugandan president)

8. Love To Love You Baby by Dinna Summer

9. Children Of The Revolution by T-Rex

10. ABC by The Jackson 5

11. Goin To California by Led Zeppelin

12. Dont Stop by Fleetwood Mac

13. School's Out by Alice Cooper

14. Love Grows Where my Rosemary Goes by Edison Lighthouse

15. Aint Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) by Joe Tex

16. The Hustle by Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony

17. Mull Of Kintyre by Paul McCartney and Wings

18. Who Are You by The Who

19. Paranoid by Black Sabbath

20. Alright Now by Free

Theres mine...I think that if a person hadnt really heard much 70's music, or if they hadnt really payed attention, that these songs would show them what music in the 1970's was all about.

Fun subject!  ;D  Here's a compilation I actually created, in the past.  It's intended to represent a chronological cross section of 70's music.  I listened to this one plenty.  I might "tweak" it if I did it again today  ::) but oh well:

1970 -  Instant Karma/John Lennon
            ABC/Jackson 5
            No Matter What/Badfinger
1971 -  Liar/Three Dog Night
Do You Know What I Mean/Lee Michaels
            Story In Your Eyes/Moody Blues
1972 -  Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard/Paul Simon
It's Going To Take Some Time This Time/Carpenters
            I'll Be Around/Spinners
1973 -  Right Place Wrong Time/Dr. John
            Doing It To Death/JBs
            Helen Wheels/Paul McCartney & Wings
1974 -  Mockingbird/Carly Simon & James Taylor
My Mistake/Marvin Gaye & Diana Ross
            Searchin' So Long/Chicago
Novelty- The Streak/Ray Stevens
1975 -  Lonely People/America
            Part Of The Plan/Dan Fogelberg
            One Of These Nights/Eagles
1976 -  Don't Go Breaking My Heart/Elton John & Kiki Dee
            Magic Man/Heart
            Saturday Nite/Earth Wind & Fire

            Don't Stop/Fleetwood Mac
            As/Stevie Wonder
1978 -  FM/Steely Dan
            Sweet Talkin' Woman/Electric Light Orchestra
            Promises, Promises/Eric Clapton

I actually made a boo-boo by listing Woman by John Lennon (turns out to be 80's) so I'll have to replace that with Imagine by John Lennon.
