Spaceship Superstar - Prism (1977)

Used to hear that one alot as a kid in the early 80's, and always thought it kind of had a eerie feel to it

I had a terrible fear of the BeeGees in the 70s. It made me think of rainy days and well, this album my mom had that I dint like.
It got better.

Lord have mercy, how I hate "Midnight at the Oasis." How that was ever a hit I do not know.  ???
Also, the smilies on this board are the coolness.

Probably because some people think it's a great romantic song.

I found it, as a child, terrifying.

I thought camels were HUUUGE!

Songs by The Moody Blues always seemed to scare me. :o

I dont think this is a song from the 1970's (I think it was 1980, but it COULDVE been from 1979)....Anyway, the song was Space Invaders. That song would come on my radio and Id pull the blankets up over my head (even in Summer) and picture alien space ships dropping from the sky like in the game of the same name.

Another song that absolutely terrified me was Horror Movie by The Skyhooks. Especially the begining with the 'wolf' howling.

But the worst was Werewolves Of London. After hearing that song I vowed to never go to London...Just incase the werewolves got to me. Ive still never been there, but thats more a cash problem than a child trauma problem.

Fire by Ohio Players.  Kind of a creepy bass line to it.  The album cover didn't help things either, and is my vote for Scarriest Album Sleeve of the 70's  :o

I think Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk" sounds kind of scary. I don't really understand it since it has animal-like sounds in the background, that's the scariest part.

I was always affraid of the songs that were rumored to have secret messages when played backwards.
Stairway to Heaven, I am the Walrus ...

Actually all the songs from the Beatles "White Album" creeped me out because of the connection to Charles Manson.

Yes,.. Hotel California.
I thought that "stab it with their steely knives but htey just can't kill the beast" meant a real monster and from then on Ithought it was a haunted house with a big furry monster.

Aqualung- Jethro Tull  I hated the flute.. and to this day.. I still don't care for flutes :P
the lyrics were a bit scary too.

and someone mentioned scary album covers and sleeves... GOATS  HEAD  SOUP - by the Rolling Stones. My mother had that album and it gave me nightmares. I would hide the cover  under the sofa.

Stuff by Pink Floyd, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper,

"Because", "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", "Revolution 9", and "A Day In The Life" by the Beatles scared me as a child.

"renegade" by Styx, "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen  Most Led Zepplin songs (just didn't like Jimmy Page's screeching vocals at the time)

I love all that stuff now, but as a kid - I guess I scared easily.  But then again, my cousins (when they'd babysit) would play everything at stadium speakers level (melting the paint of the wall volume) so everything sounded scarier back then.

Then there was a song by Brownsville Station - Martian Boogie.
There are more, but I can't think of them now.

As for scary album covers, how about the Beatles "Butcher" cover?  egads!

Devil Woman by Sir Cliff scared the hell out of me as well. Especially the bit "She's gonna get you from behind". I guess I took it too literally as a kid.

Actually- Jimmy Page rarely sang. It was  Robert Plant's screeching orgasmic vocalizations that scared  you :P

Cold Turkey- I just listened to that last night and John Lennon's vocalizations at the end of that song used to scare me as a kid. Back then I didn't know what "Cold Turkey " meant or what those sounds indicated.  Just sounded like someone was killing him.

Off The Wall (the song not the album) by Michael Jackson was scary to me as a 7 year old.

So was the song that goes 'Theres a light, Over at the Frankenstein place' from The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack.

Funeral For A Friend by Elton John was scary.

so was Dont Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult.

Oh drat!  I *shoulda* known that.  It's weird though, when he didn't screech, I liked his sound.

I loved All of my love (I think that's the song about his son that died), and I loved "In the mood" and "Sea of love" when he was with the Honeydrippers.
