Subject: Glam Rock Songs

Written By: Tanya1976 on 02/08/06 at 11:38 am

Okay, okay. Some of us discussed our favorite glam rock icons. However, you can't have glam rock icons without the music because we all know it's about the music (well, okay, the boots, makeup, hair, and so on - lol).

What song epitomized Glam Rock for you? I mean turned you on completely!!!! For me, it was "Bang a Gong (Get It On) by T. Rex back when I was about 10 (no, not the Robert Palmer/Power Station version,  :P ) as far as this list goes. However, I would say "Jeepster" by Marc as well.

I, of course, added other b/c I like the variety of perspectives. So feel free to share.

THAT's my vote. Maybe Ballroom Blitz, but Fox on the run popped right into my head.
Does Hot Child IN the City count?

The Sweet was and still is one of my favorite bands. Desolation Boulevard... what a great album. "No You Don't" is probably my favorite tune on that album. Much more kick and punch than Pat Bennatars version.

I got to see the Sweet in 78. Gotta give credit to the lone soundboard man. The band sounded fabulous. To this day I have never heard a rock band mixed so well. They were the opening act for REO Speedwagon. REO had four guys running the board. When the band took the stage they just through everything to the top of the board and uncapped their beers. How do I know? Our seats were right behind them, and being that a few of us were in a band at the time, we watched everything they did.

What should have been a great double billing turned out quite disappointing. We only got to hear eight songs by the Sweet because they blew the breakers twice. REO, well, thanks to the guys on the sound board, they just sucked.

One more thing. If not for Slade, Quiet Riot would not have had a career... Think about it.  QRs two biggest hits were Slade covers.

My favourite Glam Rock song is the original Nick Gilder sung "Roxy Roller" by Sweeney Todd

You must have really liked him. He receives a lot of talk from you.

I actually can't stand Nick Gilder ;D

I like the song Roxy Roller, but not Gilder himself ;D

There were three hit versions of Sweeney Todd's Roxy Roller (The main one with Gilder, the second one with a guy named Clark Perry, and the third one with Bryan Adams).  Of all of them, the Gilder version was the best, becuase he sounded the least gay of all three ;D

Tough one.  I love Ballroom Blitz and School't Out but had to go with Rock And Roll All Night.

I like all those listed (Except Kiss. I'm not much of a Kiss fan), and also those listed by others, but will also add from the '70s

Cum On Feel The Noize -- Slade
Mama Weer All Crazee Now -- Slade

Slade was already mentioned but the two above are my favs by them.
