Subject: Classic Rock vs. The Rest

While Classic Rock retained its popularity throughout the decade, even withstanding the punk invasion.etc, it seems the other musical movements were more 'faddish.' I.e. so called 'Heavy Metal' like Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Slade (which were really a form of 'Classic'/Stadium rock), Funk/Soul in the early 70s and Disco and Punk in the late 70s. What do you think is responsible for Classic Rock's continued appeal?
