Soylent Green my number one on the list.  I would like to have seen The Illustrated Man listed, and Farenheit 451

F451 is mid-60s, but very forward looking. :)

illustrated man is apparently 1969. and not on netflix! what's with that?

in putting together these polls i keep coming across stuff that rocks that's either late 60s, like midnight cowboy and 2001: a space odyssey, or real early 80s, like raiders of the lost ark and watcher in the woods.

i'm thinking i'll do a bunch of polls, and i plan to sneak in ONE 1980 movie and ONE 1969 movie, just to see if anyone notices.

!

i didn't vote for it, but whatever, competition was tight.

i was watching futureworld (1976), the sequel, the other night. not nearly as good but funny. and it stars peter fonda. when i was a kid i was introduced to the series through futureworld, cuz, like, it sounds cooler than westworld, which to a seven year old sounds all dusty and crappy and stuff.

OK, looking forward to it, and as for the nominees here, I will add that Return From Witch Mountain gave Star Wars a run for its money.

rollerball kicks ass! i love that movie.

the original, i'm saying, not that unforgivable remake. the people responsible for that should have been executed.

Would "The Dunwich Horror" count? I believe it was '70s, and I am a major H.P. Lovecraft fan.

i thinhk it's 1970, but i'd put it under horror. you know i've never seen it? read the story a million times though. i was big on HP in high school and college. it would have been cool if he'd been around late enough to write movie scripts.

Actually, never seen most of those on the list...

Star Wars. I don't consider Star Wars to be pure science fiction though, even if it does have interplanetary travel and weird gadgets... I often think of it as being closer to fantasy in its themes and tropes. You could easily class it under either genre. :)

I agree, but his ideas would have no earthly way to match the film effects with what went on in his head.
I also like Robert Bloch, August Derleth, and John Ashton Smith. (Who knows?)

Was just about to vote for "Star Wars" until I saw "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" at the bottom! I'm a huge fan of POTA. Whilst Star Wars was  the better film, I have a soft spot for anything Apes.

Star Wars, of course. I remember me and my neighbor watched the original trilogy when they came out on video in the 90s. We also saw the prequels, and honestly, they sucked! Jar-Jar is one of the worst things Lucas ever concepted!
