THEY'RE GREAT ONES ALSO, I THINK THE 70'S HAD BETTER MOVIES TO OFFER THAN ANY OF THE MUSIC THAT WAS MADE THEN. THERE WERE A FEW SAPPY MOVIES MY WIFE DRAGGED TO SEE THAT WEREN'T TO BAD EITHER AFTER I GOT INTO THEM,
LOVE STORY
THE WAY WE WERE
LAST TANGO IN PARIS
SUMMER OF 42
NOT SAPPY AND IS STILL TOP 10 OF ALL DECADES...AMERICAN GRIFFITTI

YEAH, I THINK THE 70'S PUT OUT THE BEST MOVIES IN THE PAST 4 DECADES.

I have to completely disagree with you about the music...The music of the 1970's, all of the different styles that decade produced, was amazing and had a style about it. The early 1980's had some style as well, but by 1987 it began to become more generic. Dont get me wrong, Im not bagging the movies of the time at all. I agree with you that the movies of the 70's are way better than most of those that have been released since 1985.

Anyway...

My top 10 movies of the 1970's:

1. Star Wars

2. The Warriors

3. The Last Flight Of Noah's Ark

4. Jaws

5. Duel

6. King Kong (1976)

7. Superman The Movie

8. Escape From Witch Mountain

9. Audrey Rose

10. Wolfen

There are so many others like: Jaws 2, Piranah, The Godfather I and II, The Island Of Dr. Moreau, The Cat From Outer Space, Patrick, Dawn Of The Dead, The Amityville Horror, The Excorcist, and many others...Its hard to just pick 10.

Maybe you weren't old enough to see rated R movies in the early 70's?

We loved the Warriors. But that was banned in a ton of places.

'We loved the Warriors. But that was banned in a ton of places.'

Really??? I never knew that.

I really want to get the original cut on DVD. I used to own it on VHS, but lent it to my girlfriends friends boyfriend (damn try saying that three times while drunk) and he never returned it. Personally I dont really like the way it turns to a comic strip in the directors cut.

Sorry...Back on topic....

I had a hard time deciding, there are many great movies from the decade.

1. JAWS
2. The Godfather
3. Star Wars
4. Annie Hall
5. The Warriors
6. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
7. Alien
8. Smoky and the Bandit
9. American Graffiti
10. Halloween

I generally like all 70s horror, but I didn't want to clog my list up with that sort of thing.  The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Carrie are all 70s favorites for me.

The '70s was a great decade for movies. Was it as good as say the '60s or before? Maybe but compared to the '70s I think the '60s have a slight edge with the number of good movies.

Some favorites that I wouldn't mind seeing again right now (in order by year)...

1. The Conformist (1970)
2. A New Leaf (1971)
3. The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1971)
4. Duel (1972) / Jaws (1975) / Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)  -- any one of these will do.
5. My Name Is Nobody (1973)
6. Dersu Uzala (1975)
7. Annie Hall (1977) / Manhattan (1979) -- and either one of these will do too.
8. Soldier of Orange (1977)
9. French Postcards (1979)
10. Breaking Away (1979)

(And I'm glad to see I'm not the only "Duel" fan out there).

I would also like to mention Corvette Summer (1978) which starred Mark Hamill. Its no Acadamy Award winner, but its a fun little flick.

ANOTHER FUN MOVIE THAT I'D LIKE TO ADD TO MY FAVORITE LIST IS " I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND" A MOVIE ABOUT FOUR KIDS FROM JERSEY GOING TO NYC TO SEE THE FIRST BEATLES TV SHOW ON THE "ED SULLIVAN SHOW". IT WAS A STORY LINE QUITE REAL FOR FRIENDS OF MINE.
