From their 70s lot, "What A Fool Believes" gets my vote.  My all-time fave Doobie song is "The Doctor"

Another Park, Another Sunday.

That song never got a fair chance to hit it big once DJs flipped it over to play "Black Water"  :-\\

(Although Black Water is excellent in its own right)

Kudos also to Listen To The Music, Long Train Running and China Grove - those three came out bang-bang-bang and we all fell in love with the Doobies (that's how I remember it, anyway  ::) )

What A Fool Believes... nothing beats Michael McDonald on lead vocals!

Listen to The Music comes second. The rest are either mediocre or I'm not familiar with.

You've never heard China Grove, Long Train Runnin' or Black Water?!  They play those constantly on classic rock radio.

Long Train Running and Black Water I have yes (Black Water is thanks to my What's Happening dvds). I had to look up the rest on You Tube.  ;D

I am a little young for them though being 30. But thank you all for introducing me to Listen To The Music!!! That's why threads like this are invaluable!  :)

I'm even younger.....I'm 24.  I grew up on this kind of music.

From the list I took "Eyes of Silver"...

The Doobies are just alright with me and every track on Minute By Minute is audial extasy...

Two stand out songs from Minute by Minute are "Dependin' On You" and the duet ""Sweet Feelin'" with Nicolette Larson.  Real toe tappers...

Howdy-shucks, if any band reminds me of my late dad, it's the Doobies...

I have a son your age, robby76.  By the way I was 14 when "Listen To The Music" was released, very good tune.  Glad you like it.

I heard "Dependin' On You" a total of two times when it was originally out. It didn't get much air play at the time. Good song anyway and one of my favs by them. I guess you can say it's "a real toe tapper".  ;D
(I'm going over to Rhapsody to play it now...)

Ha ha... just get the joke now.

Anyway I just looked up "Dependin' On You" and the piano riff is just the ticket! It won't sway any votes but it gets the thumbs up!

I may have to invest in a copy of Minute By Minute.

Ha..!  I got a million of em..!

A few months ago I found a sealed, virgin, unmolested, unplayed Minute by Minute on vinyl and bought it for something like ten bucks.  I had the album as a lad of eight or nine y/o and played the sh*t out of it.  The grooves on the record where "What A Fool Believes" is must have been well worn out...

Thing is, I haven't heard the album in it's entirety since then, and it sounds better than ever keep ;) grooving...

I listed my five favourite and pulled a name out of the hat.

I am not dissapointed by it, but the 5 songs I chose I liked equally.

Anyway, Blackwater won.

I still think "what a fool believes" Listen to the music" "China grove" and "taking it to the streets" are fantastic songs.

What surprises me about "the Doobs" is that the original band members are all from San Jose, California. I always thought they were from someplace closer to New Orleans.

While I haven't heard of all these songs, I've heard the biggest and most often-played ones, and I love "Listen To The Music" and "Long Train Runnin'", but I picked "What A Fool Believes".

"Take Me In Your Arms" is a catchy song too.

Just been looking into their Stampede album and found a great track... "Neal's Fandango"... WOW what great music! I think I'm now preferring the pre-Michael McDonald era. I love the almost country rock sound they had. The driving guitars, pianos... just amazing! Do they have any other catchy country-like songs? I may have to purchase Stampede now!
