The 70's can really be broken into 2 distinct periods.

The early 70's were really a hold-over of the 1960's.  Long hair, beards, cotton clothing, a lot of "hippyness" was still around.  And music was either "Acid Rock" (Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd), or Quasi-Country (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Eagles).  Watergate, gas lines, and the end of the war in Vietnam dominated the news.  Domestic terrorism (SLA, Wethermen, Black Panthers) still was a major factor in reguards to security.

By 1976 though, things had changed.  The Bicentennial seemed to put an end to the 60's, and things were a changing.  Disco music, Drugs, and "maximum consumption" started to become the norm.  The Free Love of the 1960's became "Plato's Retreat" and Studio 54 by the mid 1970's.  Instead of "Do your own thing", it was now "Party till you die and leave a worn out corpse".  John Lennon and The Doors was replaced by Barry Manilow and Gloria Gaynor.  Cotton became "dated", and Polyester ruled.

BTW, nice synopsis, Mushroom!  :)

Social
Educational
