Subject: The Stampeders - Poll

Written By: whistledog on 05/10/07 at 12:11 pm

The Stampeders are a Canadian rock band that formed in 1964 in Calgary, Alberta.  Originally known as The Rebounds, they would rename themselves The Stampeders (in reference to the Calgary Stampede) the following year.  Following several line-up changes, the band became the trio of Rich Dodson, Ronnie King and Kim Berly in 1968.  Originally they became a minor success in Canada in the late 60s before breaking through to the mainstream in the 70s.  Their 4th single 'Sweet City Woman' would become their signature song, providing them with a US Top 10 hit.

Though they charted several singles in Canada, further major US hits eluded them, despite another Top 40 entry with 'Hit the Road Jack' in 1975

In 1977, the group decided to part ways.  Lead singer Rich Dodson, who had a side solo hit in 1972 with 'Julia Get Up' decided to go solo, and into the 80s, he would chart a string of popular A/C hits within Canada.  In 1992, The Stampeders reunited, and today, they still continue to tour

I like 'Carry Me' the best followed by 'Playing in the Band' and 'Running Wild'

No one is going to pick something other than "Sweet City Woman" are they ? Or at least anyone not living in Canada.

SCW is a great song, but I can't imagine anyone being able to remember or hearing one other song by them.

You never know.  They did only have those brief US hits, but that's not to mean that all the rest went totally unknown in America :)

Most of the time, I often look what's beyond the big hits within the discography of some artists

I just took it for granted that you'd know of and remember other songs by them, but there just can't be anyone else out there, can there?
???

Originally this was going to be a topic about The Stampeders, until I decided to do it as a poll.  They had some success Internationally, so I never know what charted where

I amended the first post with a brief bio about them :)
