Subject: Repro Derby Jackets

Written By: tonelar on 01/04/08 at 11:27 pm

This might not make much sense in other places but I walked into a store today and on the wall were Blue, Black and Tan DERBY jackets... I busted out with the cc and bought one right away.

That jacket hasn't been mfg in San Francisco in decades... and here were pretty good reproductions (paisley liners, double zip pockets, knit wrists and collar).  Reminded me of the jacket I spent my time growing up here wearing.  Such a SF 70's staple -Dirty HARRY wears one in a couple scenes.

Derby Jackets were very kool. I still have one I bought in the 80's. But I can remember in High School it seemed like every other guy owned one. Most guys wore light or dark green ones, it was like school colors or something. This was back in 1965, Im guessing they were made in San Francisco then, and they had very heavy cotton filled stuffing back then, something they stopped doing at some point. They were actually heavier than later ones, I wish some company would take up making these again, they would make a mint as the demand is there for sure.

Two places online I found apper to still stock them.  The second link of them might even make them.  The original Derby's featured a paisley lining, I don't think these do...

I found the company that sells the Repro LaPaz Derby but it doesn't have the Paisley lining. Does anyone know what store Tonelar walked into and bought his from?
