Loved this show as a kid - a definite family favourite!

Someone has just uploaded an episode to You Tube! Let's hope an official dvd release follows soon.

Anyone wanna spend their day like a bright and shiny new dime?

I liked the show but the actress on the top right hand side of the photo (beside Willie Aames) I couldn't stand. It was a good show no less.

I was a BIG fan of Eight is Enough.  What I best remember about the show is the closing credits where the family was in a huddle lol

On the DVD 'Family Feud: All-Star Challenge', there were a few episodes that had the cast of Eight is Enough and it really got me wanting to see the show again.  I too am hoping for a DVD release.

I loved it too...
Now.
Grant Goodeve sang that theme song and it made me love him; i thought he had to be a sensitive folk singer if he was THAT good!

I was 10.

Grant sang the EIE theme song? Didn't know that.

From the kids, I always liked Joanie and Tommy - but looking back now, Dick Van Patten was hilarious!

I totally missed that... I wondered why I'd never seen her when the others would pop up now and again and discuss the evils of child acting.... drug overdose eh? sad... but not surprising.... I'm guessing drugs are  probably what made Susan Richardson go a little whacko!

From wikipedia:

Personal life
After suffering from agoraphobia and memory blackouts in the early 1990s, O'Grady retired from acting and became a talent agent. She also began taking nonnarcotic medication for a diagnosed brain chemical imbalance. In a 1994 interview with the Los Angeles Times, O'Grady said she had suffered from severe panic attacks since the age of 18 but was not diagnosed with panic disorder until she was 21. She also admitted that she abused prescription drugs and alcohol, including Valium.

In December 1998, she checked into the Thalians Mental Health Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for detox.

Death
O'Grady died in her home in Valencia, Santa Clarita, California at age 46 on September 25, 2001. An autopsy revealed toxic levels of the painkiller Vicodin and antidepressant Prozac in her bloodstream, and the Los Angeles County Coroner's office said she died of "multiple drug intoxication."

Having watched Season 1 of 'Eight is Enough', it was actually 3 episodes in.  After her death, her character was never mentioned again.  Tom (Dick Van Patten) became a single father, but there was never mention again that they had a mother.  Her last episode she filmed, there was not even a "In memory of" line at the end.

The pilot episode starred Mark Hamill as David, Kimberly Beck as Nancy and Chris English as Tommy, but from Episode 2 and on, it is how you best remember it:  Grant Goodeve as David, Dianne Kay as Nancy and Willie Aames as Tommy.

Probably a good thing they did not keep Mark Hamill as his work schedule would probably have conflicted with filming The Empire Strikes Back

Loved the show. I remember when the show ended and Grant Goodeve showed up on One Life To Live. I couldn't watch without hearing the theme of Eight is Enough in my head.

Betty Buckley may be known for most people as Abby Bradford but I didn't realize that she was the original Martha Jefferson in the play 1776 (but wasn't in the movie). She was also the original Grizabella in Cats where she won a Tony.

When was the reunion movie?

Eight is Enough: A Family Reunion (1987)  *Mary Frann played Abby because Betty Buckley was either unavailable or unwilling to participate.

An Eight is Enough Wedding (1989)  * Sandy Faison played Abby because Betty Buckley and Mary Frann were either unavailable or unwilling to participate.
