Subject: The Price is Right on DVD!

Written By: whistledog on 03/27/08 at 8:44 pm

A DVD titled "The Best of the Price is Right" is now on DVD.  It contains 26 episodes of the classic US game show, spanning mostly the 70s, but also includes episodes of the original 50s/60s version with Bill Cullen, and the final 5 episodes leading up to Bob Barker's retirement

So i'm watching the DVDs, and in a 1972 episode, the original Bullseye game (known as Bullseye I) is played.  Holy smokes how crazy was this:  the contestant plays for a car, and has 7 chances to guess the price of the car exactly with Bob telling the contestant if each guess is higher or lower!  When I'd read about this game years ago, I thought it was crazy, but to see it played, man it's madness :o

"Bullseye I, like the Clock Game, only impossible" :D

Come on down!  You're the next contestant on TPiR!  Man, the theme for TPiR I will remember 'till I die.  Early 80s I watched that show pretty much every day in the summer...

Ooooh, I'd love to have this DVD! It sounds like a lot of fun, especially the episodes from the 70's!  :D

I was watching more episodes, and the original Bullseye I game was morphed into a 2-player Bullseye game.  This was super weird.  It was the only 2 player pricing game in history, and there was a guaranteed winner:  Each contestant bid against one another to narrow the price down until someone won.  That's not a challenge at all

Definately a game that belongs at the top of the retired pricing games

That show was good but they jumped the shark when they brought back Betty... she was useless from day one to day none.

Honestly, there's little entertainment value in game shows...

Though sounds good for fans of those shows

Some of the 1975 episodes on the discs feature the original Showcase Showdown wheel.  It was a side wheel much like those ones you see at carnivals and it didn't have to go all the way around

After each contestant got a score in 1 or two spins, he/she would go and stand on a platform with a background that looked much like the platforms contestants stood at on Card Sharks (Both shows were Mark Goodson productions; that could be why LOL)

Too bad that they don't have the 'Wardrobe Malfunction' moment.

The biggest prize in the line of something like that offered in the 70s episodes was a TV/Stereo Record Player combo.  The friggin' thing is the size of a refrigerator turned sideways LOL
