Subject: Best rock bands of the 70's

Written By: VegettoVa90 on 05/08/08 at 3:10 pm

I tried not to include bands that were huge in the 80's or 60's, but I had to have the Who as a choice just because they released so many good songs in the 70's. I know Journey, Boston, Heart, and Yes were big in the 80's too, but in the 70's they were in their prime. Led Zeppelin is the quintessential band of the decade, so they're my choice.

Decent list, but it needs Aerosmith, KISS and ZZ Top.

You should be able to modify the poll to include the bands you missed. And LOL on Styx.

Weren't The Eagles the biggest selling band of the 70's.....wouldn't they have to be in there somewhere?

and "rock" is such an ambigous term....where would a band like The Bee Gees fit?  Of the bands mentioned I had to go for Fleetwood Mac for their sheer number of great hits....

Just asking the question........

I wouldn't really consider the Ramones a "rock" band...they are considered more "punk"....BUT, since they were on the list..I had to vote for them, since they are my favorite. :)

I'd have to look that up, but yes, The Eagles should be on this list as well.

As for the Bee Gees, I've never thought of them as "rock". More like "tolerable disco", haha!

I voted for the band that I could not stop listening to in the 70's, my friends used to get mad at me whenever we got together and say, dammit Mike, please play something other than Led Zeppelin.  it was either in a home on Vinyl 33 1/3 rpm or 8 track in the car. Many nights I put on headphones and listened to House's Of The Holy as I would gently go to sleep after a long day and night of partying and in the morning when I awoke, would stil have the headphones on

there is one more band not on the list,  but they will always be on my list of Best Rock Bands of the 70's, even though their time was "short lived"  Badfinger

Of those on the the list, the greatest rock band of all time, well at least until 1978 after that they sucked, is
The Rolling Stones.

To me, to fit the bill of the best means you not only know every album the band put out but every song,
every lyric and every note. To me there is only one band fits that statement and since they didn't make the
list I shall keep the name of said band to myself, though I am sure of at least two people who know to whom
I refer.

I voted for Kiss from the list; I also like Journey and The Ramones.

I would have included Reo Speedwagon on the list as well - even though they are considered more an 80s band and I know most people hadn't heard of them until the release of High Infidelity in 1980, they put out some great songs in the 70s as well.

I prefer the rocking god, Queen as my favorite band. I use to not listen to music at all! But then i herd queen and i just love that band, especially since the lead singer, Freddie Mercury could sing nearly four octaves and the band experimented with some songs and they came out so legit, just take a look at Bohemian Rhapsody, it has Heavy Rock, Pop, Opera, Disco, and funk and yet in a lot of polls it has voted as the best song ever.Even take a look at the global poll...sorry i forgot what it was called but ill tell you all later it. And i also like that fact that once you listen to one song, the rest doesn't sound the same like almost every single singer does.

In '77 saw them with .38 Special, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Ted Nugent headlining. I have to state that they were huge in the 70s due to their smash album, "You Get What You Play For", which turned millions on to them..
