Subject: Best or Worst Toy Commercials

Written By: Entouch on 06/04/08 at 10:00 pm

Hey everyone I'm sitting thinking how to start a new topic and I thought of toys from the 70s.  I can remember the commercials for new games that made me beg my parents for that toy, then I thougt about the most annoying commercials for games\toys too. The most coveted toy/game to me was Connect Four, Lite Brite, Spirograph, Etch a Sketch, and the Oven\Bake a Cake(forgot the name)  Loved the commercials. A few that was most annoying to me was the Battleship game(you sunk my battleship), Simon, Baby Alive,(hated baby dolls) and Operation(never liked this game)and Mousetrap. Tell me what you think.  Forgive me, most likely this topic was probably done before. :-*

He he.  As soon as I started to read the topic I thought of the Battleship advert!  Also Operation ("here goes his funny bone").  Another I recall (in the UK at least) was for the game Sorry with some bratty kid saying "Sorry, Lawrence".  Didn't stop me begging for the game though.

Can't recall any others clearly at the moment.  Hazy memories of the advert for Mastermind but that might just be based on the spooky looking man on the box.  :-\\

The game of Trouble - "It's Popomatic!"
It's the last commercial here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FsFLFb7H_8
It's kinda catchy though.

Oven\Bake a Cake(forgot the name)

You're probably thinking of the Easy Bake Oven - I had one of those as a kid too.  :)

Another toy I vaguely remember seeing commercials for was the Snoopy Sno Cone Machine.

I vaguely remember the milking cow. The toy I coveted the most came out in 69 or 70 maybe, I don't remember the commercial, but it was the walking talking Robot from Lost In Space. Mom wouldn't spend the money on it when I was a kid, and I still hold a grudge... about that, and my comics collection she tossed while I was at Summer Camp. If I still had those comics, I could retire.

at least the quality of Plastics improved in the 70s!
late 50s early 60s plastic was ????
Most of the toys left out in the sun were destroyed by UV rays & got all soft & brittle.
I remember "Kenner" & those crappy "Irwin" toys
Ever notice the 60s/70s toys were aimed at "Family Fun"!!!!!!!!
You don't see much of that now!.....Not much around the thinking dept anymore!
Building circuts.......Chemistry sets........Plastic Models...Unheard of now
Creativity seems to be a lost art!
Solitude with the computer age as a computer is the wedge that drives families apart!
Maybe Steve jobs can invent the "i-thought"

I love slot cars!! I would take over the TV for the few seconds that these commercials were on. My mother not buying these sets for me then is costing me a fortune now, I should have cried like my sisters did when they wanted thier crap.
