Obscure topic, but I had to post the following video, which I never knew was played by indians:

check out the dance at the end of the video!

Which led me to this song as well:

Perspective from someone who remembers these songs when they came out:

Some may recall, in the beginning of the 70's, the term "Native American" wasn't in use.  We still said "Indian", which did not sit so well with many of this racial background.  The connotations of "Indian" weren't always nice.

At the time of the song "Indian Reservation" from '71, instead of saying "yeah yeah we know", it was somewhat eye-opening to those of us who listened.  Native American folks didn't have as much of a voice then as they should've.  It was also uncommon for someone to admit being racially mixed, at least publicly, as Cher did in '73.  When Redbone ascended the charts in '74 with "Come and Get Your Love", the group was something of an anomaly - but in a good, trail-blazing way (their prior hit from '72 wasn't as well known).  Prior to that, folks who were Native American seemed to quietly blend in - even though many artists shared their heritage, at least in part.

Thankfully, our society has improved a lot in that specific aspect  :)

Their 1972 hit, on the other hand, is a dynamite Halloween-time tune, 'The Witch Queen of New Orleans'.  Since Halloween is approaching, I thought I'd post it.  Check it out:

Redbone had at least a couple vinyl LPs issued in the quadraphonic format.

Played through a quad decoder the listener was immersed in 4-channel surround sound.

Unlike the surround sound of today that is mainly geared towards home theater, the quad days of the 1970s was geared to audio delights.

Redbone's Message from a Drum quad LP was quite enjoyable.

For a real thrill try a quad version of Santana's Black Magic Woman played through a GOOD quadraphonic decoder.
