I was listening to the community radio station earlier tonight when they played this obscure little gem:

Pleasure Web- Music Man
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPI_W8tGBUw

I'd never heard of Pleasure Web before and I looked around the web to try and find out more about them, but I could find nothing.

But damn, could they ever bring the funk.  ;)

I don't think that statement of yours does it justice...there's not a duff track on there!

But then, soul music back in those days was at its finest (IMHO)

"Natural High". I don't know who sings it, though. Many years later it was played in the movie "Jackie Brown". Good song.

Bloodstone, that was (also included on the above box set)...but you're wrong about it being a good song, it's a dam' terrific one!

To me, Soul was a very huge major music genre during the 70's, comprising a sizable percentage of the 70's great music.  IMO it's unfortunate that Disco encroached so much on the Soul genre mid-late decade.

Thus, this thread seems too "big" to answer in a cohesive way - there's just too many great answers.  But here's a few that haven't been mentioned yet, plus a couple rarities:

Friends of Distinction - Love Or Let Me Be Lonely (1970)
James Brown - Soul Power (1971)
Wilson Pickett - Don't Knock My Love (1971)
  Dennis Coffey - Scorpio (1971)
James Brown - Make It Funky (1971)
Aretha Franklin - Day Dreaming (1972)
James Brown - Get On The Good Foot (1972)
Fifth Dimension - (Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep At All  (1972)
Joe Simon - Power Of Love (1972)
Johnnie Taylor - I Believe In You (You Believe In Me) (1972)
  War - Cisco Kid (1973)
Aretha Franklin - Until You Come Back To Me (1973)
Four Tops - Are You Man Enough?  (1973)
  Lamont Dozier - Fish Ain't Bitin' (1974)
  James Brown - Payback (1974)
Barry White - You're The First, My Last, My Everything (1974)
Sweet Sensation - Sad Sweet Dreamer (1975)
Tavares - It Only Takes A Minute (1975)
Brothers Johnson - I'll Be Good To You (1976)
AWB - Queen Of My Soul (1976)

I'm sure I'll think of more later...    ::)

The O'Jays & "Love Train" has already been mentioned, but I really like that video and...

- some of the best male dancers are at 0:18, 2:22. That's right guys, keep it simple and move on down the line.
- the best female dancers? that girl at 01:00 (Oh, yes, so fine), and Rerun's slo-mo partner.
- Fred "Rerun" Berry doing the slo-mo at 01:07 - the best dance of them all.
- that last guy got screwed.

Lots of excellent ones here.

My all-time favourite would have to be from 1975 ...

Here's a recent discovery for me; I love the video and the song (from the early days of Soul Train):

But this is a "Best 1970's soul/R&B tunes" thread.  ???
You listed their '60s hits but missed my favorite of theirs: Stoned Soul Picnic.

For 5D in the '70s what about this one,
(it's probably the only '70s song by them I like)

This one is a good "early ST", too.
Probably from ~ March,1972.
Lots of dances that I thought didn't come out until a little later - "the robot", "the bump".
