Subject: Help with the name of a movie

Judging by the film's quality, it looks like it was made in the 70s or early 80s and is centered around a highschool from the mid-70s. I think I only saw the second half of the film but the main plot had to do with racial issues. The two main characters: a black girl who was going through rough times at home and school while the other was a popular white girl trying to fight racism at her school. I saw it on tv several years ago and I'm not sure if it's a made-for-tv movie.
