Subject: Favourite Vintage Sesame Street Song

Written By: Trimac20 on 04/09/09 at 8:09 pm

What Sesame Street song from the 60s, 70s or 80s do you like best, or do you find most memorable?

Mind would be out of 'Somebody Come and Play' (1970) or 'Rainbow Connection' (1974).

Rainbow Connection wasn't a Sesame Street song.  It was a Muppets song, and was first performed by Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog in the original 1979 Muppet Movie

Sing it with me now.....  Lalalala, lalalalala, ELMO'S WORLD!!!!!!!!!  Come on, you KNOW you love it too....  ;)

My son would be glued to this portion of Sesame Street and called Elmo "LaLa" because he thought that was his name!

It's a toss-up between I Love Trash and Rubber Ducky.

My mistake, it's a great song. 'Bein' Green' from 1969 was a great song as well.

Two little girls in a little doll house (maybe you've seen the sketch)

The sad flower song (It's actually from the composer Vivaldi)

And 'Somebody come and play' is a classic.

The baby that sang disco:  "I'm a baby, ga ga goo goo wah wah wah wah wah".  Used to sing that as a kid.  I sometimes still do :D

Or how about the lovely Miss Polly Darton?  The one where she sang to Grover was classic ;D

Is this your Baby song?

I've tried to find Dolly and Grover's song, but am having no luck so far.  These are so fun to watch!  Brings back memories!!!  :)

That is the one indeed 8)

That, along with Guy Smiley, The Falling Baker, that typewriter on wheels that went "Noo noo noo noo noo" and the Pinball machine were the main staples on Sesame Street that I loved.  Oh yeah, and that blue balding muppet that was always accidentally going to places where Grover worked, and getting frustrated because Grover couldn't get things right LOL

"Share" from 1980 - where Ernie sings to Cookie Monster about the value of sharing a little bit of what the other person has.

It's a cute little soft rock/pop song I remember alot from childhood, and it helped get me back into Cookie Monster recently too. ;)

The "Alphabet Song" sung by Big Bird. No, not the A-B-C song but the one he sang as if the alphabet was one word.
"The Alligator King"
"Lady Bugs' Picnic"
" Willie Wimple"

Does this count?  (Pun not intended!)

A serious slab of jazz-funk (with Pointer Sisters on vocals) casually thrown into a kids' programme...incredible!

The first thing that came to mind was a counting song...it was like a pinball machine.  I'll have to find it on YouTube when I get home (can't access it from work) and post it.  I still sing it all the time.

I love "Ladybug's Picnic" too.

I always thought "Somebody Come and Play" was kinda depressing.

Does anyone remember "Singing in the Shower?"

im pretty sure the song used in the sign alphabet is called "Living in the Past" by Jethro Tull.

They were one of my favourites too. I also liked the 2 ALiens that couldnt talk, they had a song called around the clock, it was a rock song, and the 2 aliens used to make their rock sounds and noises to the beat of the song as lyrics.

I cant explain it too well but it was a pretty good song.

Oh Paul, you had it here all along.  It's just amazing, isn't it?  I loved it as a kid, but as an adult...yeah - incredible is right.  I guess I had better taste than I thought I did.  ;)
