Subject: "Story Book" record compilation lp

Written By: Johnnyraycer on 06/04/09 at 4:49 pm

Does anyone remember a record that was advertised on TV in the early 70's that featured a collection of songs with a 'story' theme to it?  There were songs like "One Tin Soldier" and "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" on it, but I can't remember the name of it, nor what company produced it.  Anyone remember this?

Thanks! John

Hey Dan! You are awesome! Thanks! But can I go you one further? Though I will probably bid on this lp, I think this one is re-packaging of an earlier version because the one I remember was definitely from the early 70's.  This looks like it's a British version release.  If you, or anyone can come up with information on it, I hope to find the original US release of it, simply to add to my collection.  Thanks for taking the time to locate this one, though. I really appreciate it.

John,

The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald was released in 1976 so if this song was on the compilation, there's no way the record could have been released before 1976. Also, the song would only be included after it was a hit song which would probably add another year to the compilation release.

I have a friend in Canada that has a huge collection of music. His name is Vic Ferri. Vic also transfers vinyl to CD for a modest fee. If interested, you can reach him at VicF53@gmail.com

For a second, I thought that said Vic Ferrari.  I was gonna say "But what about Latka?" :D

Hey Dan, thanks again. I really appreciate it.

This was one of the things--like all of us have I'm sure--that is a faint memory of childhood and I can only remember vaguely.  I remember seeing a commercial on TV while watching re-runs in the afternoon after school.  The odd thing is that I swear I saw this when I lived in a house prior to 1975. We moved that  year.  But obviously The Wreck Of The Edmond Fitzgeral released in 76 proves the point that my memory is just not solid on this.  In any case, I bought the lp from Britain that you originally pointed out, and I'm awaiting it now.  Thanks for info on your buddy, as well.  Does he do "clean-up" work on the songs? I'm able to dub it to cd, but I don't have the capability to get rid of the clicks and pops.

Thanks again,

John

John,

Vic does clean up any pops or clicks and he can reproduce the album art as well. Here's his auction site so you can see a sample of other conversions he has done.

This looks like it's a British version release.

What may be throwing you is the vendor is British...

To my eyes (from what I can see) the LP itself isn't...Warner never used that label design in Britain...
