Subject: Influence of "Fantasy" on the 70s

Written By: Ryan112390 on 11/14/09 at 11:14 pm

Idk how to put it, but it seems like there was a big fantasy (by which I mean like Lord of the Rings, etc) influence on the atmosphere of the 1970s, the fashion etc. Like the clothes, the music, the art (like the 70s wallpaper!)..Like idk how to put it, in style it seemed a much more ''flowery'' time, a very fantasy inspired era--I'm referring mainly to the early 70s (especially 1970-1973), with the floral shirts, prog rock, sideburns, etc.

This is because that era was still feeling the influence of the whole late 60's flower power/hippy movement...

Agree with Gibbo...the late sixties influenced the early seventies. All the flower-power, hippy stuff was embraced by the mainstream culture. Whether it was books, movies, shampoo, album designs, shirts, posters, ...it all came from the sixties counter-culture. The establishment saw where society was going and quickly adjusted themselves to become "groovy" to attract customers.
