Subject: Long Sideburns

Written By: Ryan112390 on 08/20/10 at 5:00 am

Around when would you say Long Sideburns on men declined in popularity? We know they came into popularity as early as 1965 or so and were huge by the early-mid 70s, but when do you guys think (and remember from experience0 that they began to fall off in popularity? I wasn't alive then, but I would guess sometime between 1978 and 1983--By 1984 they were definitely out.

You still see 'em around.  It's like the mullet.  Popularity (and dimensions) waxes and wanes, but the style never really dies.

Quick, dirty, but someone had to do it.  If not me, who?  If not now, when?

Easily impressed youngsters like I was in the early/mid '70's thought sideburns were the coolest for a guy in that era, but like polyester leisures and "Keep on truckin'" tees, they soon looked like deliberate halloween getups. Manny Fernandez of the Dolphins looked like a scary badass to a kid with his muttons and Jerry Reed actually looked like a ladykiller with his in the atmosphere of that time. lol

In the late 90s, when the 70s nostalgia was at it's peak, I had long sideburns myself.  I think it was cool to have long sideburns and an afro in the 70s.

I think there is a 70s nostalgia happening now, at least for the early 70s, like 70-73
