Subject: name that snack...

Written By: 60skid on 02/17/11 at 12:42 pm

I'm trying to remember the name of a food  from the late 60's early 70's.
They came out about the same time as "space food sticks"  I'm talking about  these pop-tart like  toaster foods ,
but they were  Pizza flavored , or ham and cheese and a few (litterally 2-3 others) others.'
They may have been a regional thing in California, but I do remember they were from a  big  food chain like  general mills or nabisco.

Does anyone remember Breakfast Squares?  Are they still made?  (I can dream, can't I?)

Proof that the early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.  Or the atkins-approved high-protein energy bar, as the case may be.

Editorial Note: 380 calories per serving, but back in the 80s, marketers hadn't figured out how to put two bars in the same package, but label "one serving" as one bar.

Well guess what! This has been bothering me for years. OCD. They were advertised on a show that was on Sunday night after or before Disney. The show started out with a cartoon beginning of Dorthy and the Wizard of Oz and then went to a live film chopped into segments. I remember one was Huck Finn. Now the pastries came in a box similar to Pop Tarts but they had cartoon faces on them that took up the box. We used them as hand puppets after we finished the box off. They were called "Munchems" or something like that. The commercial featured the boxes marching diagonally across the screen in rows. There was a variety of flavors. We always got the Pizza or Ham and Beef ones. YUM! I really hope someone responds to this. My kids think I'm crazy or a genius.
