The pictures are from 1974. Was curious if anyone would know the style/brand/etc?

We used to call them skips (or skippies), but I do think they're keds.

I'm with *Ash* on this one.  The red line just above the midsole/upper (can't really tell whether it's on the midsole or the upper), appears to be a distinctive feature of PF Flyers, and this image:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9e/PF_Flyers_Center_High_Re-Issue_sneakers_black.jpg

"PF Flyers, Center High Re-Issue Sneakers", taken ca. 2006, likely clinches it.

PF Flyers were popular in the 60s and 70s, the brand was bought out in 1972 but resold due to antitrust concerns, which would make it the sort of shoe a young parent of 1974 was likely to wear.  And popular enough to warrant a "re-issue" in the 2000s.

I was going to guess low-top Converse All-Stars, but I think you got it right.

I'd never heard of PF Flyers before, they're kind of cool.  ;)

The man in the pic, in the sneakers, is my step-grandfather. He was 57 in 1974, but he bought most of his clothing from a second hand store. It's odd--This is the only picture of I've ever seen of him wearing sneakers. In all others he wore dress shoes with his slacks.

This is VERY hard given the quality of the photo but what kinda shoes does the guy with the plaid shorts look like he's wearing? Pic year is 1973.

They're almost certainly some kind of dress shoes since he's wearing brown socks, but beyond that the image is just too blurry to go into any more detail.  :-\\

BTW do you know what they're doing in that photo? It kind of looks like they're playing horseshoes except I don't see any posts in the ground.

No idea...This picture was August 1973 and I was born in 1990 and both of the men in the picture died in 1975, so yeah lol.

I just figured the brown socks might not necessarily mean he was wearing dress shoes. My dad always wore black socks with sneakers.

It's just a little too hard to tell for sure.

I like how there's a big Ford station wagon in the background, those things were as ubiquitous in the 1970's as SUV's and minivans are today.

You ever think about taking the pics to a local shoe store....small business, not a chain, one that's been around for years, and asking there....or shoe repair place....they may know.

They look like bobos, not to be mistaken for the bobos in Boston it's a different shoe alltogether, but bobos
as in a cheap Chuck Taylor knock-off. The red stripe that goes across the top of the toes tells me it isn't
any of the sneaks mentioned but for the life of me I can't remember the name.

They are definitely PF Flyers, the PF Flyers have the one red stripe.  I remember PF Flyers, they were a step above Red Ball Jets.  ;)

PF Flyers did have one red stripe, but I haven't seen any PF's with a stripe across the top of the toe as
seen in the picture. Also, PF Flyers had the air grommets in the canvas right above the sole line. The
sneaks shown have the grommets just below the canvas line but just because I haven't seen Flyers
with these features doesn't mean they didn't exist.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the action wedge.

If you get an action wedge, your jogging suit is too small!

In the pic, I think it just looks like there is a stripe across the toe.  If you look closer though, I think it's just a shadow.

It's possible they were doing some kind of exercise. My grandfather, the guy in the plaid, had just had a minor to moderate stroke earlier in 1973, in April. He was at his brother's summer home in that pic--Picture date is 8/5/73. If you look close, you can see his right arm is a little drooped compared to his left. Apparently, according to his medical records, his initial presenting symptoms with the stroke was right sided hemiplegia. He had physiotherapy at home for several months after and by January 1974 he had regained total power, strength and control over his limbs. The other man in the pic is his brother--It is possible his brother was engaging with him in some form of exercise to help his recovery.

The other pix from that day:

Well, see "Catch" is perfect for that. You can put all your attention in the simple act of catching and throwing the ball, no complicated rules to remember, no one's going to tackle you, you don't have to run around, hold a racket, dodge anyone, kick anything, jump up and down – you just pay attention and catch that ball and throw it back in the right direction. You focus on strengthening and co-ordinating that arm. You can make jokes with your brother, talk about "back in the day," enjoy the sunshine, then go inside, sit down, relax, and have a bee-ah. If they let him drink bee-ah after his stroke, anyway.

And good for him for regaining all his strength!!  That takes guts and will-power!!!

He never drank, before or after. I know he had to relearn how to walk and talk and you figure he had the stroke in April and by early August was up walking and playing games at his brother's home--He was a VERY strong man, a WWII veteran. It's kind of amazing to see how quickly he recovered, especially when he was comatose for a time after his first stroke and had Grand Mal seizures during (but not after) it. By August he was able to walk, talk and do everything unassisted. I know this all because he was in the hospital in January 1974 for pleurisy and they did a neurological check up on him and all was normal. The only permanent problems he had were emotional lability--he would cry instead of laugh, or vice versa--and also when upset he would sometimes stutter--but those were the ONLY impairments.

Considering the fact that the guy survived WWII, a gunshot wound to the leg in that war (and managed to keep his leg), his first wife committing suicide, being with my grandmother, who was abusive, his lifetime best friend betraying his affair to my grandmother, the bitter end of their marriage, dealing with decades long struggles with gout, recurring malaria, phlebitis and hypertension, the first stroke and his girlfriend of 9 years dumping him because she didn't want to take care of him, which forced him to move back in with my grandmother (something he NEVER wanted), who was already dating my stepgrandfather, losing his brother just months before he himself died--It is a wonder he made it to 55. He was a very strong man, someone I much admire--But I do apologize for going on about him.

Him with my sister, sometime between late June and September 1973
