Subject: Around what point in the 70s did sideburns begin to disappear?

Around what point in the '70s did long sideburns (not mutton chops--just long sideburns) begin to disappear on men, as a mainstream fashion? Or did they stick around to the early 80s? I'm talking sideburns mid-ear length and longer, but not mutton chops.

My guess would be they were somewhat around up until 1980 or '81 and more or less died out the same time disco did, totally dead by '82. It's just a guess though.

I would say about 1980 and 1981 then you had black guys start styling their hair into jeri-curls.
