Was big hair already fashionable in the late 70s or did it generally not come into prominence until the early/mid 80s?

The 90s lacked big hair. The 60s, 70s and 80s all had their brands of it. But the long grunge hair, Rachel do and buzz cuts just aren't that interesting. ::) :P

Late '00s/early '10s emo-ish hair can often be big too(on the girls).

The type of "big hair" worn in the 70's looked significantly different than the "big hair" popular in the 80's.

In the UK, the shaggy perm was popular with men... not sure what exact date these photos were taken but I'm pretty sure it's the 70s.
