Subject: Would you rather be an early 70s teen, mid 70s teen, or late 70s teen?

Written By: nintieskid999 on 11/18/16 at 5:56 pm

Early 70s teen you'd be born around 1955 or 1956 and you'd be in jr. high in the late 60s, high school in the earlier 70s. You'd have an adolescence full of political turmoil like in the Wonder Years in the late 60s and "post 60s 70s" and college in the disco years.

Mid 70s teen you'd have teenage years like Dazed and confused with lots of wild parties and mid 70s rock.

Late 70s you'd be a kid in the early 70s and be graduating around 1979 or 1980. Picture that 70s show. Picture someone born in 1961 or 1962.

My 70s worked out fine for me. I do not remember any wild parties, and at the end of the 70s was happily in employment.

Early '70s. Flower power! I'd still be a young adult in the mid/late '70s. Not bad.

My mom was an early '70s teen, while my father was a mid-'70s one, and you can tell by the musical choices he still sings today. That said, I'd pick late '70s because as a child, I could still be young enough to appreciate the first couple years of Sesame Street and The Electric Company since I did appreciate Barney as a 7/8/9 year old during its early years in the '90s myself, while still experiencing the tail end of '60s culture while enjoying the '50s nostalgia in its "glamorized" revival as opposed to its not as fun as it seemed reality that actually happened, and I'd be in the target demographic for Star Wars. And of course, I'd be the right age to be an '80s yuppie and still be able to appreciate MTV and early video games like Atari, and I'd be able to experience cable TV, VCR, or a PC around the time I'd be in college, or possibly high school if I'm a silver spoon. I'd also be the right age to catch all those great daytime game shows during summers/days off of school during their '70s heyday.

No strong preference any way, but probably late 70s because homosexuality wasn't legal in California until 1976.

I strongly prefer the culture of the early 70s to the late 70s.  I really liked the music of the singer/songwriter era.  I am not too big on the disco era.

Early 70's. Just because I get to have firsthand experience of the turbulent late 60's/early 70's. This would also mean I'd be one the last to remember the post WWII Expansion era (pre 1964). I'd also spend most of college years in the mid/late 70's, and be a Yuppie in the 80's. That would be badass!

Afros were pretty darn big by '72 or so - and clothes in the 70s were never NOT weird...

I agree that each part of the decade had a unique feel, to some degree.

Mid 1970's. I don't really like disco that much, and it dominated the late 70's.

The early 70's had that hippie thing going on and Vietnam, but that's not my thing. Although I do love reading about the 60's and early 70's.

1973 to 1977 probably is more of my taste.

I remember going to a lot of parties and clubs in the 70s, I even remember when I went on a trip to South America in '79 and disco music was really big there too.
Dancing Queen is a great song, I was a huge fan of ABBA back then. Still am actually.

Yes, my girlfriend and I used to go there a lot. I remember the first time like it was yesterday, it was September 1977 and I had just turned 21. I don't really know how to describe it but the place had such a unique feel, definitely one of the best nights of my life.

Born in early 1960 - for me, Boomers.  I relate more to the Boomers experience overall than Xers.  Although late Boomers have their own category (I've heard the term "Jonesers" or something like that).

In what did everything change?

The beginnings of the 24/7 lifestyle, such as cable TV along with more affordable technologies like multiple TVs in a house, VCRs, video game consoles, and early PCs. This allowed fewer people to enjoy an outdoor lifestyle that the '70s was geared toward (many HS yearbooks from this decade often have the senior class pictures taken outside). You also had the expansion of cartoons to weekdays, especially in the morning and after school, making more people appreciate He-Man and Go Bots figures than just playing on hoppity hops and playing with animals. Although popular in some areas in the '70s, the '80s was also when the mall really became the place to hangout. But I'd say that the bigger change came towards the end of the '90s and early 2000s when the Internet and cellphones took off and became normal even for kids to have. But at least the '80s and '90s each had their own childhood-geared trends and fads unlike today. In the '70s, all you had to stay inside was Saturday Morning cartoons, but in addition to basic outdoor fun, memberships for a lot of clubs and camps was much less expensive comparatively speaking. The teenage years were the real time to have fun though with rock/soul music, roller skating, short trips, and hanging out by the park after dining out.
