Subject: Solo Beatles songs

Written By: AL-B Mk. III on 07/21/18 at 2:37 am

What are some of your favorite post-breakup songs by the former members of the Beatles?

(Although this thread is in the 1970's board, since the majority of their material was made in that decade, it can also include songs that were made in the 1980's and beyond.)

I'll begin with one of my favorites:

George Harrison - Dark Horse

I love this one:

Not only is Ringo in it-so is Sir Elton. I didn't see Paul-but John sort of made a cameo.

George really was the best Beatle.

I didn’t care for much by the Beatles together but I loved most of what they did as solo artists. Every one of them went their own way and embraced their own style. My favorites:

John - watching the wheels
Paul - silly love songs
George - give me love
Ringo - you’re sixteen

I loved that "George Harrison" album when it came out back in 1979. It was a successful enough album but it wasn't a huge smash. I think it was a bit too low key for what people were expecting during that period. I always felt that album had a very "shimmery" kind of feel to it. Like a lot of hanging silver tinsel everywhere.  :)

What about the songs Paul and George did in the 1980's? ???

...George really was the best Beatle...

In many ways I share this sentiment!  :D

Here's one on the obscure side - although the host album sold, people forget the album because it was largely panned by critics.  My opinion, if you disregard its one hit single ("You"), it's a pretty enjoyable album.  Leon Russell is among the guest artist list on this tune:

George Harrison - Tired Of Midnight Blue (from his 1975 album, Extra Texture)

Do you like when The Beatles went off and collaborated with others like for instance, Paul collaborated with Michael Jackson in 1983 and Stevie Wonder in 1982 and you also had George collaborate with The Traveling Wilburys.

"Cosmically Conscious"
Paul McCartney
1993

A rarity! Written in India in 1968 under the influence of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, recorded in 1993 and included as a hidden track on the "Off The Ground" album. This longer version only appeared as the B side to the "Off The Ground" single. Love this song!
