Subject: What are/were your favorite 70s cars?

Written By: cowboy on 03/08/19 at 7:03 am

These are mine:
BMW E21: https://barnfinds.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/818076976-e1484096332165.jpg
Fiat 127: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3098/3229113519_4bb99ffd88.jpg
Opel had some very nice offerings in the 70s like the Manta, Ascona, Kadett Coupes and City.
I also dig the VW/Audis of the 70s like Polo/Derby. Ford had the Taunus/Cortina and also the Consul/Granada Coupe:
https://img.favcars.com/ford/consul/wallpapers_ford_consul_1972_1_b.jpg

2-door sedans were a big thing back then. There were also 2-door station wagons!

As I'm European never seen a Ford Maverick in person but I like their groovy looks:

In Europe 2-door sedans, coupes and even station wagons were still popular in the 70s, but by 1979 most of them have disappeared except for the Taunus/Cortina line. And what cars from the 70s do you dig?

I had one of these - except mine was rich brown with a white top:

1973 Camaro Rally Sport.  Now I had it in the mid 80's so mine was on its last legs...  ::)

Still, it was a fun car (when my dad could get it working).

Here's my 70's dream car (at the time) - 1976 Trans Am (with the decorations and T-Tops):

^Lol I like this gen Camaro but at first I thought it's a Chevy Vega.
The Vega actually looked nice, almost like a more pedestrian Camaro in the front, but they say it was a lemon... anyway I can only wish to see any of them in the metal!

I love this Trans Am! Totally forgot about it. The 4 headlight later versions to me looked less exciting despite the high profile role in a certain movie...wish they had used this one!

Btw I know someone on TheCarLounge that also liked or drove some of the ones in your post. :)

"The 1970 Cadillac Eldorado marked the introduction of the behemoth 500 CI V-8 engine, the largest production powerplant ever produced and one that delivered a whopping 400 HP. By 1970, the vertical headlamps had resumed their horizontal positioning, and body lines were streamlined to create a more solidified look. Along with the behemoth 500 CI V-8 engine, this 1970 Cadillac Eldorado comes equipped with an automatic transmission, tilt steering column and cruise control. Power brakes, steering, windows and locks are all featured on this Eldorado. The exterior is clad in a regal Regency Bronze Firemist paint, which was ordered at an extra cost. Air conditioning combines with a black leather interior with wood accents to help create a well-refined luxury machine. Riding high on a set of luxurious white-stripe radial tires, this big Eldorado is bound to impress onlookers both when rolling on the street and displaying it at a show."

As early as 1970, Chrysler die-hards were feeling nostalgic for the 300-letter series, which ended in 1965. The 300-series carried on, but performance had taken a back seat as mid-sized muscle cars had picked up the go-fast mantle. Chrysler tried to recapture the magic for ’70 by outfitting a 300 coupe with the interior from an Imperial, a fiberglass hood and decklid, a 375-horsepower 440-cubic-inch V8, and a Torque-Flite automatic to handle all that power. At 18.5 feet long and 4,400 pounds, the big Chrysler could still make zero to 60 in 7.1 seconds and run the quarter mile in 15.3 seconds. With just 500 built, the Hurst 300s rank as one of the rarest Mopar muscle cars of all time.

Sweet, the 454 I presume?

https://www.corvetteforum.com/articles/1970-corvette-stingray-overview/

Big Block 454 cubic inch displacement-This was the new big block for 1970, following 1969’s wildly successful big block 427 cubic inch displacement engine. This monster engine was capable of producing a mammoth 460 horsepower, being one of the first American engines to break the one horsepower per cubic inch barrier.

Performance Numbers

This was a Corvette, so it’s to be noted that the performance of the 1970 Corvette as factory equipped was extremely impressive. Some of these performance numbers are as follows:

1) Acceleration: This was an incredible for the time 5.7 seconds from zero to 60.

2) Quarter mile acceleration: This was an equally impressive 14.17 seconds.

To me, I didn't care. I thought a Vette was a Vette and I liked them all.

You'd like that big block 454 just a whole lot more, and so would any car collector:

I've always been more partial to the small-block myself.  ;)

I've always thought the 1970-72 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was a great looking car.

Pictured is a 1971 model:

This one, which is under the carport out back. Almost got one around 1982, when they were 10-12 years old. 1970 Torino Formal roof coupe. The original purchaser was nice enough to order it with bucket seats and a console for me. Dreamed of having one since I was 16, finally got one at 49/50 years old.
