Subject: Famous Faces in 80s Videos

Written By: Wicked Lester on 12/28/01 at 10:18 a.m.

I was watching VH1 Classic the other night when I saw the video for Kate Bush's "Cloudbusting", which featured Donald Sutherland in a sort of mad scientist role. Just a few minutes later "Wild Wild Life" by the Talking Heads was played, and I spotted a somewhat younger and more svelte John Goodman -before he was even a household name, I'm sure.

Anyway, this started my train of thought down this track: how many 80s videos can you remember that featured cameo appearances by the famous? I remember Danny Aiello being in "Papa Don't Preach" as well...

The floor is yours.

easy. Courtney Cox as the girl pulled on stage at the Bruce Springsteen concert in the "Dancing in the Dark" video

does Chevy Chase in the Paul Simon video count? he was already famous by that point so I guess not..

I had forgotten about Courtney Cox... and Chevy Chase counts too. It doesn't have to be someone who was unknown. I only pointed that out about Goodman because he probably was unknown at that time. I don't really know when he became famous, but I don't remember seeing him before the hideous "Roseanne" show.

Not that she is a WELL well known actress now I guess, but Gina Gershon (from Face Off, among others) was in Marchello's "First Love" video.
I'm sure I'll think of some others, but that was the first one that came to mind.  :D

Culkin in the Jackson video "Black Or White" was 90's. So was Keanu Reeves in Paula Abdul's video "Rush".

Alicia Silverstone was in a few videos. I cannot remember for the life of me if they were Aerosmith videos and/or possibly Tom Petty's "Free-Falling".   ???

What is the name of the actor in Bonnie Raitt's Thing Called Love (was that 90s?).  He also played Jerry Lee Lewis around the same time in the movie with Winona Ryder.  Sh*it, it's driving me crazy.  What's his name?

And, Terri Garr, Al Franken, and a slew of others in Ghostbusters.

And Tish, just the sight (or name) of Christopher Walken brings Jay Mohr to mind. His "Walken" on SNL is hilarious.  And the Rotweiller story, for those that haven't seen/heard it, I'm sorry.   The written transcription would not be funny.  You hafta HEAR it.

I'm so glad!  When that other group came out with a video for it (the one with the monkey in it) I don't know who they are (showing my age here, huh?), everyone kept commenting on it being a great cover.  Not being a fan of the gloved one; I had no clue.
Same goes for Bootylicious via Destiny's Child.  I just can't imagine Stevie Nicks saying the word bootylicious.  That word just doesn't fit her image, do you think?

Speaking of Destiny's Child - I just don't see what the big deal is about Beyonce.

also, the two kids in rick springfield's "jessie's girl" are actors, too. the girl was that high pitched chick that was in a lot of 80's movies (dottie from pee wee's big adventure and valley girl) and she played on "friends" as the girl who stole the smelly cat song/concept from phoebe and sells it to the kitty litter company... and the guy (presumabley jesse?) from the video (another one of those 80's faces that you see all the time, but don't know their name for the life of me) was one of the kids in "the last american virgin"

Look closely and you can see John Candy in the "Ghostbusters" music video. His scene is very brief, and he had lost a lot of weight during this period of  his life. He may be hard to notice,or recogonize. But the Candy Man is there! By the way, does anybody know John Candy was supposed to be in the movie "Ghostbusters"? He was supposed to be the nerd character that Rick Moranis played. John Belushi, had he lived, would have played the Bill Murray character, and Eddie Murphy was supposed to be in it too. :D Sincerely,Steve.

Shannen Doherty (from Beverly Hills 90210) was in one of Slaughter's videos.  I can't recall which one right now..pathetic really...You Are The One maybe??..She's like a model/actress or something and all I remember is her staring pathetically into the mirror while the song plays.  I always hated her, and always LOVED Slaughter (especially Mark!!  Oooh...don't get me started!  :P) So in any case I was bummed to see her in it.  BUT, she was, nonetheless!!

It was the "Real Love" video.  :)

Matt LeBlanc was in Bob Seger's "Night Moves" video, back before Friends.

Also the guy that played Madonna's boyfriend is Alex McArthur who was also in Kiss the Girls and Conspiracy, but mainly a B movie actor and Debi Mazar is in True Blue and Papa Don't Preach.

Anyway, this started my train of thought down this track: how many 80s videos can you remember that featured cameo appearances by the famous? I remember Danny Aiello being in "Papa Don't Preach" as well...

The floor is yours.

I think Johnny Galecki (David from Roseanne) was in that video too. He was making out w/ some chic on a blanket on the grass.

No fair! Somebody beat me to the Julian Lennon Stick Around Video with Jamie Gertz in it. So, I'd like to mention even though they were already famous the Michael Mc Donald video, Sweet Freedom, with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. Love that song! Elijah Wood was in Paula Abdul's video Forever Your Girl. I used to just love that video. That's was in the 80s right?

Not mention: Jennifer Gatti, the girl on "Runaway" (Bon Jovi)
And Bobbi Brown  appeared on "Once Bitten, Twice Shy".

Former MTV news anchor Tabitha Soren had a bit part on "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" (Beastie Boys).

And Winona Ryder as Debbie Gibson?
She doesn't (then & now) look  like her.

Mojo Nixon should've hired Juilette Lewis or Nicole Eggert.
They resembled more like her.

Though Danica McKellar, of "The Wonder Years", appeared in  "Lost In Your Eyes" (Debbie Gibson).

Shannon Hoon, late lead singer of Blind Melon, appeared  on "Don't Cry" (Guns N' Roses) in the early '90's.

Oh,nearly forgot... Cortney Cox in "Dancing In The Dark" (Bruce Sprinsteen).

"Debbie Gibson Pregnant..." banned? It should've been on the "MTV2 Controversial Videos" special. Well, Deborah Gibson probably has  kids now.

Nite live and not to mention the little comedy bit by Jay Mohr (rrrrrrrrrr yummy guy) about Jay's Rottweiler with no tail (yah hafta hear it from Jay).... anyway, mypoint: Christopher Walken looks like fun! Sorry, very very not 80's but hadda mention it...

Neidermyer(Mark Metcalf) was also in Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" video.

Caroline Munroe was in Adam Ant's "Goody Two Shoes" video. She was, I believe, in a James Bond movie.

This is a 90s video but since we were talking about it earlier, in one of Aerosmith's videos, "amazing" Edward Furlong, who was in Terminator 2 and Detroit Rock City was in it with Alicia Silverstone. Alicia Silverstone was the only celebrity in "cryin" and Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone were in "Crazy" together. Just to clarify.

Bruce Springsteen's ex and current wives can both be seen in the "Glory Days" video; Julianne Phillips played the waitress and Patti Scialfa of course was part of the E Street Band. ;D

Quoting:
Julianne Phillips, Bruce Springsteen's ex-wife who later appeared in the series "Sisters", was the bride in the .38 Special video, "What If I Had Been The One?" The Ball State students that saw this video on NBC's "Friday Night Videos" in our dormitory's lobby thought she was Pam Dawber. ::)
