The reason was in the story - liver cancer.  :-[

Man, he was Wendy's. Hopefully, the chain will continue to prosper without him. RIP, Dave.

I was actually surprised to see that he was still a major player in the company. Usually people like him sell out to some corporate conglomerate and just do the commercials. He was definitely a rare breed. He came off as very likable in his commercials, it'll be strange to see Wendy's commercials without him now.

That is sad. We've all been watching Dave star in those silly Wendy's commercials since the late 80s. I can't imagine not seeing him on the tv everyday anymore.  :'(

Yeah, I see that now Hairspray.  They've apparently updated the story since I posted the link.

That's exactly what happened. I just happened to be the first to see it.

Thanks for letting us know. I would have never known otherwise.

I am sorry to hear that Wendy's founder and pitchman Dave Thomas is no longer with us.  :'( He seemed to be the calm in a stormy burger world. But the bright side is at least he'll be making burgers in Heaven with Clara Peller. ;)

he actually was a really decent human being. he started out working at a burger joint as a kid and worked his way up to owning his own chain. he believed in quality and in giving ppl a chance to better themselves.
he was also adopted and was involved in differant things to do with promoting adoption. God Bless Dave's soul. he was for real.

According to the news as I was listening to it this morning on the way to work, he DID sell the chain a while ago and was just doing the commercials.

My daughter is going on a field trip this week and on their way back to school they are stopping by a Wendy's.  When we had the news on tonight she heard the announcement and said it was sad that he died.  How sweet!
Then an hour later she got mad thinking about it because she assumed that since he died his restaurants would close, screwing up her field trip!
Out of the mouths of babes...

He was a good man. When I was in high school he graduated with the class of 94' and actually got his diploma or GED.
