Subject: The most crazy songs of the 80's

Written By: Criz on 01/11/02 at 10:58 a.m.

A similar thread on the 90's, about the funniest songs made me think of this. There are some pretty crazy songs that were made in the 80's. My votes go to:

Toto Coelo - I eat cannibal
Men At Work - Down Under (love this tune!!)

Anyone have any more to add? :)

How about "Turning Japanese" by the Vapors (I think, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about that group name!  It's been awhile  :) )
I'm sure I'll think of some others, but that's the first one that sprang to mind.

"Chicken Outlaw" (forget who does this).
"Let's Play U.S.A." by Peter Schilling (I THINK he originally released this in late 80s... could be wrong)
Most things by Weird Al

My favorite parody song not done by Weird Al has got to be "Born in East L. A." by Cheech & Chong.  They even made a movie out of it!  "Green card?  I'm from East L. A.!"

The only version of that song that I know of is by Quiet Riot.  Do they sing the same song, or does it just have the same name?

Ok, well do all 3 versions go: ''Come on, feel the noise, girls grab the boys, we get wild wild wild...'' ??? I've only ever heard the Slade version so I dont know if they are all the same song, but i pressume so.

My crazy/weird list - anyone recall these???:

* "Shoop Shoop Diddey Wop Cumma Cumma Wang Dang"... (Weird!)!
and the followup: "Sheba she shashoo" - dont remember who...
* "Ullo John Got a New Motor" and "Dincha kill my brother" by Alexi Sayle.
* "She blinded me with Science" - by erm, someone, starring Magnus Pyke!

Ummmmm, I guess Plastic Bertrands "Ca Plain pour Moi" comes close albeit a rockin' tune! ;)

That is the song we were talking about.  I was only aware of Quiet Riot and Slade making it.  I don't know anything about Oasis doing a version, but I guess it is possible...

Thanks DJ M for the sir mix-a-lot tip.......speaking of sir mix-a-lot, I started thinking of all the songs that came out in the late 80s that had that same effect....

Pump Up the Volume by MARRS  (not really crazy.....just different.)

Help me out with this one..... there was a pretty funny song that came out somewhere around 1988 or 1989 that had the Smurfs theme and Fat Albert in it.  Some of the lyrics included....
"like a bowl of Campbell's soup, I'm mmm mmm good, just ask all the ladies in the neighborhood"
"like Kentucky Fried Chicken, I'll do you right, I'm gonna rock your body till the early light (la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la )"

I don't know the title or artist, but I think it was a little crazy.

I don't know if they would fall under the category of "funny," but I think some radio stations were d a m n crazy to play these songs back in the day without fearing any repercusions...

"Sex Dwarf" by Soft Cell
"Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" by The Smiths
"Little Girls" by Oingo Boingo
"Romeo's Distress" by Christian Death
"Kinko, The Kid Loving Clown" by Edsel (?)
"Buffy Come Back" by ---- And The Reruns (I forgot the names at the moment - I blame it on MSG!)
"Funkhadafi" by Front 242
"Like A Virgin" by Madonna
Anything by Wendy O. Williams and The Plasmatics! YEAH!!!

That was Ogden Edsel, and he had a lot of very risque song out in the 80's.  I usually listened to them on the Dr. Demento show, which was a feat in itself to find.  Each radio station would carry it for 9 months to a year, then drop it, with no explaination.

And yet Howard Stern Has been going strong on the local affiliate for *years*now.  Go figure.
