No, Bobo you are not one of them...you have been on here for a month or two and I am talking about the people that have been here for much longer than that.  People that actually lived in the 80's and don't waste other peoples time with useless posts.  THAT is why all my friends are "taking breaks"!!! >:(

Perhaps the problem here is some confusion, on Bobo's part, regarding the difference between "regulars" (currently) and "old crowd".  Bobo, allow me to explain.  Once upon a time, before you decided that you were going to single-handedly bury this board under literally hundreds of "nothing" posts, there was a group of regulars who actually came here to chat about the 80's and beyond.  And through their posts, and perhaps the odd PM (;)), relationships developed.  Some of these relationships were limited solely to responding to each other in threads.  Others among these people actually became friends.  Until this whole "number of posts" nonsense started, the top posters list read like a who's who of these people.  It was a rather close-knit group; but the great part was, anyone was welcome to join in and be a part of it.  It's just too bad that the dynamic of the board has changed so that people who have always had something valuable to say are being drowned out by people who just always have something - anything; even if it's nothing - to say.

youngcricket, I have noticed some of the members about whom you enquired lurking about the boards.  I also know why certain others haven't been around as often as usual.  I cannot tell you why they, personally, have not been posting as much recently; but I can tell you why I haven't.

After not having the time (or the inclination) to be around the board much this week, I spent a few hours today catching up on messages; reading every thread (as I always do), hoping to bring back some more great memories of decades past as well as find out what my friends have been up to lately.  Sadly, I found very little that inspired me to post my thoughts, ideas or memories.  I also found that most of my friends haven't been around much more than I have.  I agree with Rapture; if we want things to improve, perhaps we should take action and start some threads that the "old crowd" may be interested in responding to.  And, like youngcricket, might I say that I miss you guys and gals (you all know who you are)!

I realize that in an online community like this, people are bound to come and go all the time.  It just saddens me that so many I've grown to know and luv are disappearing at the same time.  There MUST be a reason for all these changes...  *thinking*  Whatever could it be?  Oh, I KNOW:

i have been enjoying this site before we even got to the new board. i used to run home everyday , turn on my pc and go straight for this site.

if you ask me, which of coarse , no one did, we need a chat room so some of these ppl can get all there nonsense out and leave the board for serious posts.
maybe i am wrong, maybe i have outgrown the board or it has out grown me...but if i wanted to deal with the "popular crowd" i would go back to high school.
please don't take this as an attack on anyone. we have alot of great ppl here with great personalities and opinions, but it just seems like some are grasping for attention and others only want to reply to post made by their buddies, then you get alot of ...hi how was your vacation and crap like that.

I originally joined this site back in 1998, so I've been around long enough to see plenty of changes and lots of people come and go. But that's the way life goes; it changes, continually and without pause. In regards to people having conversations with friends they've made here, isn't that one of the purposes of this board? I think that's a sign that people enjoy this place and the people in it...  :)

On the chat... Why don't someone pick a day that everyone here can meet in a yahoo chat room?  :)  A private room can be set-up.  Someone can post that the room is open, that way if you want to stop in you can. :)  Sometimes chats are nice because you get to know everyone better. :)

I'll have to offer my apologies for any craziness since I became active.  I know I'm not an oldie or a regular.  I was always just a lurker, since the days of the old board.  When I decided to actually start posting, my personality takes over.  For the most part, I think I've been a good poster, contributing to topics at hand.  And I'm limiting, if possible and with the odd exception, my personality-laden posts to the Penguin Play Area.

If I've bothered anyone with my posts, I apologize.

Well said, forevernow. You're not the only one who feels that way. When ChuckyG retired the old board last Fall, I ranked among the top 5 all-time posters after two years as a regular - not bringing that up in an attempt to boast, but rather to reflect my enthusiasm toward visiting this place, which I did about 1-2 times a day. But I agree - lately, it's just not the same, and you nailed a big part of it in your post above. Over the past six weeks, I've probably been dropping in maybe only twice a week, and in that time, I've left a grand total of only about three posts...

Now more than ever, this place is indeed about "cliques" - and being in one seems to be the only way to earn any respect around here, IMO... >:(

I'm here!!!  I was on vacation and away from my computer during the holidays but am back and trying to catch up (although there are just too many threads to be able to read everything).  I have been coming to Chucky's site for over 2 years now and do consider myself part of the "old crowd".  Like many of you though I feel like I've been buried under the pile of useless posts.  I used to like to try and help people figure out songs they were looking for but I've noticed that somebody always seems to beat me to it now.  It's kind of sad.  Maybe it's because there seem to be many more members now than there were with the old board.  I try to check in on a daily basis but I don't always post.  I've been addicted to this board for a while now and don't plan on moving out anytime soon!   :)

? I'm new here, so if I offend, apoligies in advance.

When I started, it seemed to me that the "Members Only" section of the board (now called Playful Penguin Palace) was just for that purpose.  Off-topic threads for friends to catch up with each other.

I admit I have not been paying much attention to what type of posts I've made in what section of the board, but from now on I'll try to keep posts about the 80's in the 80's section, and friendly chit-chat in the members section.

As for a real-time chat room, that may not be possible for everyone, due to work schedules etc.

Subject: Re: Where is the old crowd??

Forgive me if I have mistaken someone's posts, but it sounds like some of the 'old crowd' would like to keep the boards full of the old crowd and nothing else.  I'm sure, though, that ChuckyG needs this board to thrive (with newbies) or it will die.  Some of you b*tch and moan about useless posts (which I agree, Bobo has more time than ideas), but only if it isn't one of your or your friends' useless posts.

There are cliques on this board, and that's fine, but if you're going to attack, don't just attack a few newbies, go for ALL the posters offending your sensibilities.  There are things on message boards that annoy us all, but nothing in life is perfect.  Go around them.

I try to add to the conversation.  The reason my post count is this high is because I went through the 80s board and responded to topics that interested me.  I didn't realize this was against someone's 'old code of rules'.

And there is no point in pointing things out to Bobo, because he cannot take a hint, and if you spell it out for him, he simply ignores those posts.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion, and as a relative newcomer, probably worthless to most.

Somebody enlighten me please.  ??? Where and Who - "cliques and useless posts..."?

I remember a lot of useless posts that use to be fun and some pertained to you, Jonman (remember the flirting) back before Christmas. What about the Calendar posts? Are those the ones you're refering to? Where are the cliques? This is not highschool. If I've been designated the role of a clique member without my knowing, then let it be known that I officially deny any such position. I have no prejudices.
And from what I remember, Everyone has been welcomed to the board!

If one can make acquaintances and friends in this forum, then Why Not? ? ? All the better, I say! Where's the harm?

This is supposed to be a fun place - not a dreadfully serious one. I certainly wouldn't want to be a part of a monotonous and uptight community. Some take this all a little too seriously, IMO. Let's all be Friends! Let's all Relax! Have Fun!

I just had to type my thoughts just like everyone else. Jonman, don't hate me. Peace?  :-/

I've been visting this site for well over a year now, but I guess Im quite new to the message board. I completly see where some of you are coming from, with the useless posts from a random few, but I also see that maybe people are being left or even singled out as they are new to the board. I only post if its relevant or if i want an opinion on something really. I think that responding to a thread is one thing, and through this people get talking and get to know each other. I don't see the harm in that really. We're all just a load of people, from all around the world who have similar interests. Thats why we are here, so I hope we can just get back what we came here to do in the first place. :)

okay...i'm not sure how i feel about this whole thing....it seems some ppl have taken offense without being named...that makes me wonder. i didn't mean to offend anyone or rock the boat...i simply responded to a post that seemed to beg for my opinion.
i guess i am trying to say...hmmm...that there seems to be a "tone" happening. just like youngcricket said (and i'll try to quote the best i can w/o looking) we used to have so much fun posting about nothing at all...now there is nothing at all w/o the fun" (sorry if i didn't quote it correctly).
it just seems to me that alot of good posters are pushed aside(example: criz posted: what are lima beans? in the "icky poo" post and has been completly ignored) in favor of a post by another in which they simply agree with someone else..    did that make sense? it's really hard for me to put a tone into words.
i am not out to ruin this site or discourage newcomers...it makes me happy to see others join and enjoy the 80's we all remember(even the young and immature) and i am thrilled to see that this site has beeen linked to "that 80's show" but i would hate for newcomers to see alot of nonsense or bickering going on.So, let's just leave things as they are and those of us who don't like it can stay or go.but if i do choose to stay or go i can bet you i won't make a big deal of it.
maybe i'll just change my name.....
God Bless you all...the 80's ruled and they always will!!!

I havent been here that long so I cant compare how this board used to be to how it is now. But I guess that this site may be a 'victim' of its own success. The number of members is over 300 now so it stands to reason that there will be someone who each of us may find annoying etc. But its no big deal and probably reflects real life anyway.

On the subject of a lot of views and not many posts, I look at it this way -  if a thread doesnt interest me I'll read it but then skip over it. Alternatively if I have a point to make I'll post it.  From what others have said I guess I'm not the only one who does that. Thats not a critisism btw and we definitely dont want some sort of Message Police dictating what should and shouldnt be said.

Finally I do think that sometimes this board can - in all innocence - come across as having a bit of an 'in crowd'.
But a lot of people on here would seem to have built up friendships over  time, and what may be seen by some as being cliquish, is actually just friends chatting.

I hope people like Forevernow and 80'smusicfreak stick around though. Quality not Quantity. :)

With all the talk of cliques and "the in crowd", I'm curious to know if someone would post a list of these groups, and who belongs to each one. Just so I know where I fit into all this, you understand. ;)

As for the "newcomers", I welcome anyone who makes a substantive contribution. Does everyone always make meaningful posts? No. And I see no harm in a little playing around, but when it starts to take over entire threads then maybe it's time to head over to the Penguin board. Believe it or not, but I have been known on occasion to post something that was totally made of fluff!!!  :o

I agree with Criz. We have all come to this board for a reason, new or old. Let's face it.....everyone has been a newcomer on this site at one time or another. I feel like I've been welcomed.
