Subject: How Many Artists Have Their Own Record Label? Who?

Written By: Hairspray on 01/20/02 at 04:02 a.m.

I know Madonna has hers - "Virgin Records", Isn't it?

Well, thought I'd give this topic a shot. There's a noticeable shortage of new topics.  :-/

What's the origin of their label's name, Thunder? It's definitely unusual!!!  :)

They took it from a bad review of one of their shows when they were first starting out, doing clubs.  The reviewer, Chris Westwood,  stated "Deaf Leopard (sic) were Heavy Metal as Heavy Metal always was and always will be.  Crosses, macho poses, bludgeon riffola that even the Sabs (Black Sabbath) abandoned years ago and -- ironically, me thought -- the only band to screw the audience for an encore."

Joe elliot states that that is English sarcasm, and that it means that they screwed the club by playing an encore when, in the writer's opinion, they didn't deserve it.  He says the reason they did the encore was because the audience was stocked with band friends and workmates (called Rent-A-Crowd) insisted.

So, when they released their first EP, in smartass tribute to this review, they used the label Bludgeon Riffola.  It's been there ever since.

Jon Bon Jovi was given his own label by Polygram called JAMBCO named after him and his brothers (Jon, Anthony, Matthew, Bongiovi COmpany)...the band only recorded 2 albums and Jon 1 solo album for the label before it went under in the Mercury/Polygram takeover by Island Records...

P. Diddly Daddy and Bad Boy (I think they whisper it on every song the label puts out).
