Many people always have a special song for their boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands, wives..... uh..... You get the picture.

Anyway, I remembered one that we called our song - "Always" by Atlantic Starr.

Ok. Let's just see how many romantics we have in our midsts...

and one with a more upbeat tempo ---"The Promise" by When In Rome (romantic in an odd way, I guess)

That is funny!!! Actually, my sister had a friend in high school who was, for the lack of a better word, loose, and we sort of made "Hungry Thighs" her theme song. My friend's and I would break into this song whenever we saw her!!! (Kids can be so cruel!!!)  ::)

I'm with cs... different songs for each girlfriend, and I can't remember each one. However, the first was "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" by Journey... I was in junior high, so it isn't strictly 80s, but still...

Hairspray - one of mine was also "Always" - but it was by Firefall - no idea if the two songs are the same.  Lyrics went (come on old memory !) "You've got me thinking of you, Always, every day every night".  Anyway it was for a boy who my daddy made me stop seeing - he actually sent me to live in another state when I was 15 !

And the years before that - and it was the older brother of the first boy - when we stopped dating - I couldnt get "Always Something There To Remind Me" by Naked Eyes, out of my head.  Our song together was Meatloafs "took the words right outa my mouth".

I agree that there were different songs for different people...that said I'd have to say the two biggest memory-jerkers for me are Bon Jovi's "Never Say Goodbye" (it was my wedding song...she said goodbye after 2 years LOL) and Stryper's "Honestly"...major crushage with that song...

Hey! There you go! You can add them 2 songs to the "Same Name, Different Song" thread because they're not the same song.  ;)

"I will love you so - for aaaaaalways"  ;D

Jonman, you couldn't have said it better.  Never Say Goodbye and Honestly were two of my favorite slow songs.  Also by Stryper First Love.  I just love Stryper.  Too bad they are not together anymore...

The first song that my husband and I found we both like a lot is "It Might Be You", by Stephen Bishop.  We played that song at our wedding and it has always held a special place in our hearts.   :)

I'd be willing to bet that Jonman already knows the song that's going to be played at his next wedding, doesn't he?  ::)  :-*

AHEM...

I've never had an "our song" with anyone.  :'(  The only guys I cared about before grade 11 were a guy who was using me for my Canucks season tickets (what song would you use there?), and one on a school trip that I only knew for two days.  Then in grade 11 I refused to get serious about anyone because I had too much else going on, so I was never with anyone long enough to have a song.  I dated one guy for several months in grade 12; but we never agreed on anything, let alone a song.  Then I got in a very long-term relationship with someone who doesn't care about music at all; so what would have ever been the point of telling him I picked a song for us?

I really envy all you romantics who have shared this with someone!

I've never had an "our song" song, but more like songs that would remind me of the certain someone I happen to be with or like...

"The Killing Moon" by Echo And The Bunnymen, "Black Celebration" and "Fools" by Depeche Mode, and "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order come into mind.

For a GF I had while working as a DJ, our song was Journey's "Faithfully"

Ex-fiance and I's song was "Headed for a Heartbreak."  Like that was a little foretelling.

Another GF's and mine's song was Richard Marx "Hold On To The Nights"

And of course, the typical one with another GF, Glen Medeiros "Nothin's Gonna Change My Love For You."  And of course, but for my finding her with my best friend one night, it might have been true.  Shoulda been "Nothin's Gonna Change My Love For You Unless I Find You Screwing Around."

Just one question -

Why did some of you have a song or songs with somewhat of a negative connotation for "your special songs"?

Just curious. I always made it a point to keep mine positive.

"I Just want To Be Your Everything" - Andy Gibb (I know it's 70's  ;D)

"Earth Angel" - The New Edition version.

Almost anything by the group Air Supply.

"You're The Inspiration" - Chicago

I don't really know.  I suppose it's because for some of them, it happened that we were together, getting to know each other, when the particular song came on.  A case of both of you saying "I love this song!"  It's meaning becomes irrelevant, it becomes "your" song.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but many songs have one verse that is positive or semi-positive, and I/we just ignore the negative aspects of it.

I mentioned one of my "specical songs" earlier, and while I'm still not comfortable explaining that, I will explain another.

"Is Your Love Strong Enough" by Bryan Ferry/Avalon.

My ex-husband and I focused on the line "someone that I would die for".  Later on, when things were starting to go wrong, I called up to request it to be played on the radio, hoping to remind myself that things would get better.  The DJ (correctly as it turned out) pointed out that it sounded like one of us was thinking of ending the relationship.  I never looked at it that way when it became "our song".

Of course, now the song that reminds me of my ex is "One More Minute" by Weird Al.  "I'd rather jump naked into a swimming pool full of double-edged razor blades--than spend one more minute with you"  :P

Well, let's see. There were more than just a couple.  ::)
In Junior High, my on and off boyfriend and I were at a dance after a football game, and we danced to "Somewhere Out There", from An American Tale..don't know that it "meant" anything, but even now when I hear that song I remember that night.  While we were dancing this other chick that liked him saw us and sat on the steps outside of the commons and cried and cried...quite pathetic really.. :'(  We never got totally back together at that time, but years later he and his mom took me to all the best concerts...we ended as good friends in any case.
There was a guy I had a mad crush on in high school..he was a couple of years older than me, and in his own "circle"..NJROTC as it were..anyway, my friend, unbeknownst to me, went up to him at one of our dances and asked him if he'd dance with me.  He said "Sure!" (he must've felt sorry for me..LOL!) and the song we danced to was "Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO Speedwagon.  It sure seemed right to me, even if it wasn't true for him.  That was always my "Troy song" when I heard it.   :-ages, and then I ran into him at our local club.  I was really rude to him and just walked away, and he said
"Well, bye.."  :-/  So I went back and we talked out all the crap that had led up to the fight, and he asked me to dance.  It was "I Can't Wait Another Minute" by Hi-Five..ah, memories.. ;)
Okay, as if I haven't gone on long enough, my pathetic butt finally met "the right one".  Our first dance together was to "Faithfully", by the one and only Journey, and our wedding song (and the phrase on our wedding invitations) was "Masterpiece" by Atlantic Starr.   :)
Anyway, sorry to run on and on...and sadder yet, those are just the top ones out of my string of songs for lost loves...LOL!  :-/

My song with my high school sortof-boyfriend was "And So It Goes" by Billy Joel. He (so-bf) does not in fact know this. It's our song because one of my clearest memories from high school is sitting in 100% darkness with the so-bf backstage (we were on stage crew) while onstage someone was singing this song. And the so-bf didn't take advantage of the situation. That's when I knew the song was going to come true.  :-/
