Subject: One Name Wonders

Written By: 80sTrivia on 01/20/02 at 06:55 a.m.

It occurred to me recently that quite a few artists in the 80s suffered from inflated egos and went by only one name.

The most obvious examples being Cher and Madonna.

There was also Morrissey and Pebbles.

So, guys, put on your thinking caps and come up with some more one name wonders, from the 80s or any other decade!!!  :)

What about Leilani from the 90's. Prince? Sting? Bono? Edge? I don't know if the last three count though, seeing that they are pseudonyms, but they were the one-named artists I could think of at the moment.

Shannon. Or do one-hit wonders count?

Anyone who has had a hit that has only one name, imo. I am in no means able to lay down the law on this topic though, but then again, Leilani only ever had one hit that I remember...

In case we are counting the one-hit wonders....

Gerardo.

And if we want to count the guy who named his band after himself?  Dio.  (but I do like his stuff, don't yell at me).

This is actually not that uncommon (I love Dio too, BTW). Off the top of my head I can think of:

Keel, named for Ron Keel

Argent, named for Rod Argent

and of course Bon Jovi

If I could include 1970's acts, there's definitely Lobo who had hits like "Me & You & a Dog Named Boo."

"Alanis" back in the "Too Hot" days, with her fluffy hair and cute round cheeks.  I know she never hid her last name or anything, but she used to just get introduced as Alanis.

Did her career ever change when she started using the Morrisette...

After she left Momma & "The Judds" behind, we got:

Wynonna

I thought for sure I'd get Martika before someone else.  Good job, Dagwood.
