Subject: How did you change the words to pop songs?

Written By: Mystery Woman on 01/20/02 at 08:04 p.m.

youngcricket and 80sTrivia talking about "Hungry Thighs" in the "special 80's song" thread got me thinking...  (BTW, I thought everyone sang it like that!)

What other 80's songs did you change certain words to?  Can any of them be repeated here?  Most of mine can't; but we had a lot of them!  (I guess I was a horny little virgin as a teenager :-[)

Does anyone have any?

"Hands To Heaven" by Breathe
real lyrics: Ê"tonight Êyou calm my restlessness"
our lyric: tonight you saw my breastless-ness

okay, so we were dorky....it came up one day while we were listening to the song on the radio. Êout of the blue, one of my friends said, "well, he's a guy....I would hope he's breastless". ÊWe all looked at her like she was on something until it hit us that she didn't know the lyrics. Ê Since then, we still tease her about it Ê("Are you okay? ÊWhat's wrong....feeling a little breastless?") Ê

Edit: I just wanted to clarify....we were in junior high then. Post pre-teen changing of lyrics are definitely off-limits for the board. :o

Oh, lord, all of the lyrics that we changed as kids in school can't be printed here!!!  ;D

Ok - I checked my old diaries and nope a lot cannot be printed here - the safest one is:

Help - by Beatles first the Johnny Farnham.

Help me if you can
I'm drooping down
and  do appreciate you
feeling round

help me get my balls back off the ground
wont you please please please pull me !

Oh gawd - I am actually blushing after typing that !!  hey we were 13 - it was the dirtiest we could be !!!!

Well, this is the only one that's clean enough, but I warn you, it's goofy. :P

The cutest boy in our junior high had the last name of "Prendergast", and his nickname, naturally was "Prendy".

When we would hear "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow, we always change it to "I Want Prendy". ;D

... Gimme a break--I was only 12! ;)

Well I don't necessarily know about 80s (though they are at least borderline 80s and 90s), but I used to do on-the-spot perverted parodies... Ones I remember the most are "I Have Sex Toys" (ala Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing") and "If You Don't Blow Me Right Now"...

When we were younger (and pretty innocent!)- every1 used to sing Kylie Minogues - I Should Be So Lucky as:

I should be so lucky
With my rubber ducky

I cant really remember pop songs that people changed lyrics to, but i remeber lots of Christmas songs, eg

While shepards watched their flocks by night,
while watching ITV,
The angel of the lord came down,
and switched to BBC.

and

Jungle bells
Batman smells
Robbin flew away
Batmobile
lost its wheel
on early chrismas day, hey

Stupid little kids songs that every1 used to sing at choir practise, at primary school, just to annoy the teachers!

Does mishearing lyrics count?? I had a friend who thought 'video killed the radio star' was video pulled the radio's wire !?!

Good point, I never realized that we could include misheard lyrics and parodizations within the thread. I can't think of any offhand though.

I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany became 'I think we can f**k now, there doesn't seem to be anyone around...I think you can go down....the beating of your meat is the only sound'.  Hey, we were about 14 when we changed that, so we got pretty dirty.  :P  As soon as you catch me, you can sue me. ;)

We changed so many...the only one that didn't need embellishment was 'I Want Your Sex'.  I mean, what more could you say?!

After reading a couple of those, I'm thinking some of ours weren't so bad...

Alright, someone restore my faith in humanity and tell me you changed "I Want Your Sex" to something clean...

No?

Didn't think so.  Seems it only works one way when you're dealing with teenagers.  (Don't go off on me about singling out teens - that's just how old most of us were when we were doing this in the 80's!)  I'm sure noone changes the words to songs anymore, now that many of us are adults...  ::)

The only song that comes to mind off-hand would have to be "Our House" by Madness.  My friends and I would sing, being from the St. Louis area, was "Our House in the middle of Times Beach".

Times Beach was a small town in Missouri with the dioxin waste and basically they shut down the town and made everyone leave for health reasons.

p.s.  Yes, I'm back from hiding.

(As you can see MW I still havent mastered the art of getting those white quote boxes to work yet !!!!!)

Course we all stopped changing the words when we hit our 30's - now we just get all the lyrics wrong cos we are old and cant hear them properly !!!!! ;)

Grade 8 trip to Quebec and George Micheal's "I want your sex" was a big hit.  For some reason we all thought it was hilarious to scream out "I WANT YOUR SOCKS" at the top of our lungs on the bus ride up.  What can I say?  We were bored.  ;D

We used to sing "I want your socks" instead of "I want your sex"  Is your faith now restored? :)   Course, we were also dorks. LOL

Umm, guilty as charged. :-[

I can just hear my mother now--"If you don't turn that noise down, you'll be stone deaf by the time you're 30!!!!!" :-[

I don't dare admit she was (almost) right. :P

Well, I'm sure Banarama's "Venus", upon a little thought, needs no explanation for how I changed it...

Then there's REM's "Losing My Religion"

"That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Playing with my pecker..."
