Subject: If you grew up watching Boston TV stations

Written By: ChuckyG on 01/21/02 at 05:57 p.m.

If you were watching TV during the 80s in Boston (especially channel 56), The following phrase should evoke a memory:

"I can walk like a pengiun. Look at me!"

Who (besides me) remembers what they were advertising?

I want a sound clip of that... though I bet it can't be found on the Internet

I do!! I do!!! ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

The New England Aquarium.

The general gist was that they had more to offer than just fish. The kid (part of a school trip by the looks of it) was imitating the penguins he'd just seen.

What do I win?  :-*  ;)

the fact that you got it right (and didn't say Boston Science Musuem, a totally different entity) wins my eternal respect  ;D

with the current penguin theme, it just sprung to mind.. had to make sure I wasn't the only one who remembered that

After posting I double-checked with my brother, who not only memorizes the tv guide, he videotapes almost everything that's on (Why, I'll never know.)

Because of this he's somewhat of a tv expert, and when I called him to ask, he did not even hesitate, he just blurted out the answer, paused, then asked why.

I must confess I gave him the penguin-conspiracy answer.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Do you think he has old tapes with that commercial on it? I always like to use that as one of my tests as to wether someone local grew up here (if they're close to my age).. I'd love to be able to play that sound clip.. it's like the only local commercial I remember really well..

yeah, I'm strange, but you already knew that since I run a  website

I've already asked him to keep an eye out for it.  If you only knew exactly how many tapes he has! :o

He actually has one whole room of his apartment full of them.  I'm trying to think up a good incentive to get him to look harder.  He spends most of his free time setting up customized 8-hour tapes to show in the "video room" of local and semi-local science-fiction conventions.  He tries to tailor the movies to show stuff starring whoever the featured guest is.

I'll keep checking back with him every so often.
