Subject: Creating a Super Band From 80's Musicians

Written By: Rivers_Edge on 01/21/02 at 07:34 p.m.

If you wanted to put together a hard rock/ heavy metal band using any musicians who would you use. For me it's

vocals Steve Perry  of Journey
Guitar Eddie Van Halen   of Van Halen
Bass   Steve Harris  of Iron Maiden
Drums Neil Peart of Rush

Hmmm, a tricky one!

OK, how about :
David Coverdale (Whitesnake) - Vocals
John Norum/Steve Vai (Europe/Vai) - Lead Guitars
Tony Reno or Ian Haugland (-Y-/Brazen Abbot) - Drums
Stig Pedersen (D.A.D) - Bass
Mic Michaeli (Europe) - Keyboards

this would kick ass... :D

Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) on vocals

Yngwie Malmsteen on guitar

Jason Newstead (Metallica) on bass

Fred Courey (Cinderella) on drums

Not definitive, and I would certainly change it around if you asked again tomorrow...

I'd be looking for either Ronnie James Dio, or Ozzy Osbourne on vocals.

I must confess, though (ducking quickly) that I don't know enough about music to know who is a good guitar player, bassist, drummer etc.

I tend to like a song by the singer and/or lyrics. The guitarist could be playing with his feet and I probable wouldn't notice.

I have been accused of being tone-deaf, (which is why I won't sing in public unless it's a parody and supposed to sound bad), can I use that as my excuse? :-/

You're wasting your time.  This band has already been created:

Joe Elliott on vocals
Phil Collen on guitar
Vivian Campbell on guitar
Rick Savage on bass
Rick Allen on drums

They go by the name of Def Leppard

LOL.  Sorry, I couldn't resist....

I was actually waiting for someone to give this type of response; but I was betting on Jonman naming Bon Jovi...

The thought did cross my mind as I read this thread but then I saw that TV9 had beaten me to the punch LOL...but in consideration of the question my band would be as follows (and no laughing please)....

Vocals: Huey Lewis and Darby Mills (Headpins...gotta have a chick singer too!)
Guitars: Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and Aldo Nova
Bass: Spider Sinnaeve (Streetheart)
Keyboards: Andrew Johns (BLVD)
Drums: Tico Torres (Bon Jovi / Franke and the Knockouts)

Okay you can tell I grew up in CanCon Canada but still, amazing musicians!!

Hi, Sephiroth, welcome aboard!

Where did you get the avatar, I just love it.  Is it a website that has other pics, too?  It looks great. :D

Look at my avatar.  Like I could have given any other answer?   ;D

Nope.  None of them could be replaced, even by Eddie (although I think he's severely overrated.  To me, Nuno Bettencourt has him beat all over the place...)

Hi and thanks! :)

The avatar is from my own website "Aphasia", at http://medlem.tripodnet.nu/Aphasia

As you can see, it's an avatar of Joey Tempest. I also have avatars of EUROPE and Kee Marcello.

I would have taken Steve Clark over Vivian Campbell

I have to agree with you, Steamin' was truly excellent, but this has the potential to open the whole "Steve Vs. Vivian argument".  Steve is, sadly, gone.  And Vivian is a tremendous guitarist in his own right.  He fits well with the band, can play extremely well, has a great stage presence, is coming into his own with writing.  He belongs, and more importantly, the rest of the band knows he belongs as well.  They all work well together.

"Jason Newstead (Metallica) on bass"

NOOO!!!! RIP Cliff Burton. I think one of my high school friends *still* refuses to listen to anything Metallica recorded after Cliff died.
