Subject: Rick Springfield, Musician

Written By: RockandRollFan on 04/24/02 at 12:29 a.m.

I know he began in the early 70's but he peaked in the 80's so, what are your thoughts on his music.  Where I live he is totally discriminated against by the radio stations.  They tell me because of his short stint on the soap opera General Hospital, they would rather not risk losing thier listener base by playing his songs >:( I think it's very unfair...btw some of my favorites by him are:
Affair Of The Heart-1983
Don't Talk To Strangers-1982
Speak To The Sky-1972
Jessies Girl-1981
Jessica-1976
Don't Walk Away-1984
I've Done Everything For You-1981 Written by Sammy Hagar (Who complimented Rick on his version!)

I loved Rick Springfield! I saw him in concert with Corey Hart in 1983(I think). And I watched him on GH. I would have to say my favorite songs were
Affair of the Heart
Hard to Hold
Love is Alright Tonight

I'm not the biggest fan of his music, but he is talented nonetheless.  I saw him perform 2 years ago at a local radio-sponsored "second chance prom" and he put on a great show.

Some of my faves by Rick include:

"Human Touch"
"Love Somebody"
"Affair of the Heart"

                 Human Touch
I done Everything for you, You have done nothing for me. One day I said, I have a whole lot of money, But when that didn't happen over night. I found out how much you really cared. Does that answer your question!

I think it would be easier to ask me which Rick Springfield song I didn't like. (that would be none of them, love 'em all).  Human Touch and Jesse's Girl are the two that are standing out in my mind right now.

Thoroughly enjoy Rick Springfield's music, he was the first concert I ever went to.  I don't hear him on the radio much, BUT I do hear him now and then on Friday Night 80's and the Way Back 80's lunch hour on our local station.  Plus, I have a decent selection of 15 of his songs on my internet station.  Not great, but decent...

I adore Rick.  he was always such a pretty boy in the 70s - who could forget his very shortlived appearance in Battlestar Galactica.

So I thought you would enjoy this extremely pretty pic from 1971.  hmmmmm boys in pink hey ??

I always thought Rick was a pretty decent musician....and I always liked his version of I've Done Everything For You a lot better than Sammy's, even though Sammy wrote it!! Jesse's Girl is a classic....loved Love Is Alright Tonight and Don't Talk To Strangers as well....

Not only did I love to hear his music, but he was a pretty good actor too.  I couldn't wait to see him every afternoon as Dr. Noah Drake :D

I liked just about everything he did, too. :)

On Springfield's "Behind The Music", Sammy Hagar had a bit where he mentioned that he thought Rick was just a pretty boy pretending to be a musician, until he saw Rick perform I.D.E.F.Y. live, and said it was better than his own version, and that he (Rick) could really play guitar....

Of course, that's not a direct quote, obviously, since I can't remember the exact words...more "To the effect...."

Another underated musician.  I played the "Livin In Oz" album until it warped.  That, Journey "Frontiers" & my dad's "Frampton Comes Alive" I prob'ly played each at least once a week.

As an actor, he's a pretty good musician.  ;D  Just kiddung.  I pretty much liked all his shows, even though there were a few that lasted only a couple episodes.

As with dagwood, I'd be hard pressed to list my faves.  All those mentioned so faar, and I'll toss in:

Me & Johnny
One Reason
Taxi Dancing

Okay, RockandRollFan, you've told us your favorite songs by RS, and that you feel he's underrated and discriminated against by radio (won't argue w/ you there), but what was it that made you such a fan of his in the first place? Is he your #1 artist of all time? When did you first become a RS fan? Have all his albums? (Trivia question: Which of his was released w/ two different covers here in the U.S.?) Ever seen him in concert? If so, when & where? Ever met him in person? Followed his career lately? I've read so many posts from you applauding RS on other threads, too, that I was just kinda curious... :-)

:)  Rick was my #1 poster boy for awhile during my teen years. His face graced my walls, my door, my ceiling and even the walls inside my closet.  SIGH.

Anyway, though I enjoy pretty much everything he's done, if I had to pick my faves they'd be:  Jesse's Girl, I've Done Everything for You, Love is Alright Tonight and Don't Talk to Strangers.

Well, he was the man who got me In with the girls dorm at college in 1981.  While all my buddies were out and about by themselves wanting a girlfriend....I was watching General Hospital amonst all the beauties ;) (The guys finally caught on and we all had a great time at school). He is definately in my top ten favorite artists of all-time. I think maybe Wait For Night had 2 different covers....unless...I do have reverse covers of Working Class Dog (I always thought the record company made a mistake or something)....Never saw him in concert...my girlfriend and I had tickets to see him in August, in Denver, but we broke up and I let her have both tickets.  I have all of his albums...nothing against the boss but IMO, I would rather listen to Rick anyday over bruce....for me Rick is the only Spring that matters :D
