Subject: Songs which charted better on re-release

Written By: Criz on 06/05/02 at 03:40 p.m.

I know theres quite a few 80's tracks especially which charted higher on re-release, but this can really be intended for other decades also. A couple which spring to mind (as I've just heard them one after the other on my mixed playlist ;) ) are:

- The Smiths - How Soon Is Now (mid 80's, early 90's - not sure on exact dates - how bad for a Smiths fan! :))
- Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over ( '87, '96)

UB40 - Red Red Wine  (can't remember when it was originally released, but was re-released as a single in '87 or '88 in the U.S)

Did David Bowie's "Space Oddity" chart higher the second time around?

"Shakermaker" was Oasis's first single, and didn't chart at all until it was re-released after "Live Forever".

I seem to remember the same happened with the Pet Shop Boys' first single. It probably happens a lot.

I think Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll" charted higher on its 1983 rerelease than on its original 1979 release, due to the fact that it was used in the Tom Cruise movie Risky Business.

I believe Talk Talk's "It's My Life" was released twice in the 80s and had better success (at least in the States, but I'm sure someone on this board will prove me wrong) the second time around. Also, I believe Real Life's "Send Me an Angel" was released twice... don't know if it charted higher on re-release, though.

80'smusicfreak, did "Dancing In Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)" by Q-Feel chart the first or second time it was released?  Just curious... :)

Actually, it did chart twice here in the U.S., but I left it off the list above on a technicality. In hindsight, I probably should've included it; I didn't because the song failed to crack the top 100 the first time around. But here's the info:

"Dancing in Heaven (Orbital Be-Bop)" - Q-FEEL  (#110, Spring of '83/#75, Summer of '89)
