Subject: 80's club music

Written By: langdon_hughes on 06/27/02 at 10:45 p.m.

I'm begging, I'm pleading, I'm bribing... how do I get ahold of that yummy early eighties techno that all seems to have disappeared except for a few vinyl LP's that surface about as frequently as Nessie? English Boy on the Love Ranch. Moscowa TV. Moev. Camoflage. Xymox. Microchip League.

I want I want I want I want I want I waaaaaaaaaaaaaant.

*this has been a message from Langdon's inner child. we now return you to your normally scheduled poster*

I may have suggested this before: claim you're a DJ, then go to www.razormaid.com.  You can buy customized CDs with songs from the artists you mentioned (check their discography).  They're pricey though, at $25 each.  If you still buy vinyl, you may want to head over to Dr. Freeclouds in Costa Mesa (I want to say it's near South Coast Plaza; I've only been there once) and ask if they have any old remix service issues, particularly Razormaid.  These may also be pricely, but their mixes are the ish.  Address & info found here: http://www.drfreeclouds.com/dfml/index.html.

Oak Lawn Records in Dallas TX also carries a decent selection, and they have Razormaid vinyl back issues (2 or 3 record set for $29.99; they may have some eighties techno on cd also; I didn't look at cds when I was there).  Website www.oaklawnrecords.com.  You probably need to call them to see if they have what you're looking for.

Over Memorial Day in Dallas I played around with Kazaa on my parents' PC and found mp3's of some of the artists you mentioned.

Hope this helps, lang.  :)

DJ, you're right! I totally totally spaced! You have the patience of a saint and I thank you wholeheartedly. This time I'm gonna bookmark the spot. (Have I mentioned lately that I'm blond? Sparkly things distract me easily.)

Thanks.

Indeedy, they are good - pistachio nut ice cream good! :) :) Oye, Langdon, I would also check out http://www.ab-cd.com/ for rare finds like Tuxedomoon, The Durutti Column/Vini Reilly, Clan Of Xymox (okay, do you really like this band or are you just pulling my chain?), Frontline Assembly (late 80s), Crispy Ambulance, Section 25, Death In June, Dif Juz, And Also The Trees, et al as well as their 90s counterparts like Wolfsheim, Diary Of Dreams, VNV Nation, Wumpscut, and others. Tower Records also has some of these...just be prepared to unload tons of bigca$hmullahbuck$$ for these thingies 'coz they ain't cheap! Dr. Freeclouds is a good store, but it's still aimed at ravers and DJs. There's also Vinyl Solution in Huntington Beach, but I don't even know if they're still in business (plus, the skinheads outside the store are a bit intimidating - I never could totally pummel someone with a shaved head...).
