Subject: Good Classic Rock/Rock 80s Music

Written By: Sagnastian on 06/29/02 at 02:33 a.m.

I was born 1980 and I grew up on the rap/hip hop music scene.  I just got into rock music like 5-6 years ago.  And I'm starting to like that old classic rock music from the 80s.  Right now am into like:

Whitesnake - Is this love
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
Lynyrd SKynyrd - Simple Man
Sheriff - When I'm With You
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Poison - Something to Believe In

any other suggestions you might be able to tell me what I might like according to these songs that I already do?  if so thanks, I'll DL them and check them out.

Rush. The vocals are hard to get into, but the instruMENTALization is to die for.

There's also the "M-group": Metallica, Megadeth, Motorhead, and Ministry!

The examples you gave seem to be more-or-less on the softer side of their respective groups.  Here are a few more for you in keeping with your list...well, maybe not the Scorps.  Enjoy!

"Home Sweet Home" - Motley Crue
"Rough Boy" - ZZ-Top
"Passion Rules The Game" - Scorpions
"Secrets" - Van Halen
"Hold On" - Santana

You should probaly try a compilation cd first like "Guitair Rock" or "Monster Ballads" then If you especially like one of the bands on those albums, you should go try one of thier CD's.

Poision and sherif are considered "hair" bands so If you like them you might want to try:

Scorpians
Def Lepard
Motley Crew
Damn Yankees
Twisted Sister

Lynyrd Skynyrd are more southern rock so If youlike them you might want to try:

Ted Nugent
Golden Earing
Traveling Willburys
The Band
Foghat
Bachman Turner Overdrive
Th Ahlman Brothers band

I'll throw in:

"Double Vision" - Foreigner

"Abracadabra" - Steve Miller Band

"Back In Black" - AC/DC

"Leave It" - Yes

"Turn Me Loose" - Loverboy

"Kiss Me Deadly" - Lita Ford

"Mr. Crowley" - Ozzy Osbourne

"Stone In Love" - Journey

"Poison" - Alice Cooper

"Rock Of Ages" - Def Leppard

I would add:

"Sweet" - mid 70's - 'Desolation Boulevard' is a great record.

"Cheap Trick" - late 70's early 80's - clever pop with a rockin' edge - "Live At Budokan" is possibly the best live album ever made.  It rocks!  Also, their power ballad 'The Flame' is a great 80's tune.

"Angel City" - early 80's - great hard rock band from Australia.

And you may want to check out the 'top ten' lists on this site.  If you see a song or two on a list that you like, chances are you'll like other songs on that list.

Ah, Davester, another Rush fan! Kewl!!

As far as "Classic Rock" goes, I highly recommend David Bowie, Roxy Music, T. Rex, The New York Dolls, and, apropos of The Ox's unfortunate-untimely death, The Who (the inventors of the "Windmill").

Hey thanks for everyones help.
Hey Davester, I just got down DLing (downloading) Scorpions - Passion Rules The Game.  Good song.  I like that kind, not to hard and not to soft.  I just like the classic soft rock 'cause it's like easy listening.  Lay back and feel good music.
Yeah I heard AC/DC "Back in Black", that's a tight song.  Eminem did a remake to that, added the lyrics to "My Name Is" with that beat.

The recommendations listed here are money when it comes to 80's rock, and there are so many more.
I'm glad you liked the Scorps.  That song was among my faves.  I love turning people on to good tunes.

Davester, that song by ZZ Top was good.  As for the others, well, I don't care to much for Santana.  Don't care for Motley Crue or Van Halen either, thats just me though.  Well time to check out Hairspray choices ;)

That was in reference to Foreigner's "Double Vision". It's close enough in years, IMO. Besides, I'm confident the song will be liked anyway regardless of the "2 years short" of the actual 80's decade thing.  ;)

I also recommend "Hotel California" by The Eagles.

They were showing some highlights of the 80's on VH1 and I saw something on Lita Ford. I hate saying it but she was kinda "hot looking" back then.

Try EUROPE!  ;D  :)

Their best album is "Wings of Tomorrow" from 1984.
It's probably hard to find, but try! :) It's worth it.

And then of course there is "The Final Countdown"...  :)

The Pretenders

You can pick any 80's album at random and you've got your Rock 'n Roll.

BUT:  Don't overlook 1994's "Last Of The Independents" .
Incredible.
