Wel the top 80's artist were:

Michael Jackson (Top male artist) - Do I have to explain what kind of music He's responsible For? Some of his popular songs: "Billy Jean", "Thriller", "Bad", "Smooth Criminal", "man in the Mirror"

Madona (Top Female Artist)- again I should not have to explain her music. Some of Her Popular songs: "Like a Prayer", "Material World", "Papa  Don't Preach", "Crazy For You", "whos that Girl".

Hall And Oates (Top Group/Duo)- They play regular rock music kind of Like Matchbox 20 does now.  a couple of thier songs: "Maneater", "Private Eyes", "So Close", "One on One", "Adult Education"

Prince - He Played R&B with the ocaisional cross over rock song. His popular songs "1999" "when doves cry" "raseberry Berrea(sic)" "Little Red Corvette".

Whitney Houston - She sings pure Crap.  Her Popular songs:  "I'm your Baby Tonight" "Greatest Love Of All" "So emotional" "Didn't we almost Have it All"

Kool & the Gang - R&B/Disco Band, also realy popular in the 70's.  Popular 80s songs:  "Celebration", "Joanna",  "Victory"  "Stone Love"  

George Michael - Homosexual british Pop artist that hates America, also in the group Wham.
Popular songs "Careless Whisper", "I want your Sex", 'Faith", "Freedom (wham)", "wake me up before you go go (wham)"

Diana Ross - Female R&B Artist. Lead singer of the Supremes. also popular in the 70's.  Popular 80s songs: " Endless Love" "Missing You" "Upside Down" "Muscles"

Huey Lewis and the News - Rock Group From san fransisco. some popular songs "Do you believe In Love", "Heart and Sole"
"I want a new Drug" "Doing it all for my Baby"

Billy Joel - Rock pianist, also popular in the 70's and in the early 90's. Some hit songs: "Uptown Girl" "We didn't start the Fire" "Still Rock and Roll to Me" "Allentown"

Sheana Easton - Pop Singer/actress. some of here songs: "Morning Train" "For your Eyes Only" "Sugar Walls" "The Lover In Me".

Journey - Rock Band also popular in the 70's and nineties some hit songs: "Don't Stop Believing" "Open Arms" "Whos Crying Now" "Seperate ways (worlds apart)"

There are others that maybe had a greater influence, these are just the twelve most sucessful chart wise in the 80's
